Directly responsible for variety of duties, including: loading, unloading and moving products and materials to the designated locations in the facility, and assisting in picking and placing materials orders.  Must be a team player and work collaboratively with all plant personnel and ensure to inform Supervisor of ongoing needs.  Functionally responsible for safe handling and storage of material and the safe operation of forklift in a safe and courteous manner.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities of the Forklift Operator are detailed below, but not limited to the following:

  • Complete daily inspection forms before operating equipment and immediately report any finding to Supervisor.
  • Ensure to address all areas as per Supervisor's direction to ensure efficiency and minimize any potential downtime caused by material shortage
  • Adhere to material flow procedures ensuing that material is moved, stored and document effectively
  • Responsible for material movement as designated and identified by assigned colour tagging system.
  • Responsible for stacking, moving, loading and storing all material safely and efficiently while safeguarding safety of personnel and ensuring to protect material and property from damage
  • Comply with all quality related policies, procedures and system requirements
  • May perform other activities such as assisting in taking inventory and weighing/checking materials.
  • Pick orders and prepare for shipping, including stacking, wrapping, and crating products.
  • Pick material from warehouse for outbound orders, and ensure they are high quality materials being shipped.
  • Participate in 5S in all areas of the facility.
  • Perform other handling duties such as: counting, weighing, and sorting.
  • Put away received materials to proper storage locations
  • Confirm inventory transactions are complete.
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience

  • Minimum secondary school education or equivalent
  • Valid counterbalance forklift license
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience operating a counterbalance forklift full time
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working as a materials handler in a warehouse/shipping environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience with heavy and oversized loads.
  • Knowledge and experience of safe lifting and handling techniques.

Technical Skills/Competence

  • Ability to work independently.
  • Sound command of English, both written and oral.
  • Able to effectively communicate with others.  
  • Strong understanding of load handling, weight, size and measurement
  • Basic computer skills required
  • A solid understanding of equipment/technology; forklift, snips, slings, tape measure, weighting scale, overhead cranes, dollies, chains, computers
  • Previous experience operating a multi-directional COMBI forklift is considered a strong asset

The expected pay range for this position is $ $26.63 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors including, but not limited to, skills, experience, qualifications, internal equity, and business needs.
