Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior CNC Machinist journeyman to lead advanced machining operations and support production excellence. This role requires deep technical knowledge, the ability to independently set up and optimize CNC machines, and a strong commitment to precision, quality, and safety. The Senior CNC Operator will also serve as a mentor to junior operators and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently set up, program, and operate CNC milling and CNC turning equipment
  • Interpret complex blueprints, GD&T, and technical specifications
  • Edit and optimize CNC programs (G-code) at the machine for efficiency, accuracy, and tool life
  • Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, and machining strategies
  • Monitor and adjust machine operations to ensure consistent part quality
  • Perform first-article inspections and in-process quality checks
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and resolving production challenges
  • Train, mentor, and support junior CNC operators and setup personnel
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to improve processes and reduce scrap
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards and maintain an organized work area

Skills and Trade Qualifications

  • Journeyman Machinist
  • Extensive experience as a CNC milling Operator, Setup Technician, or Machinist
  • Advanced understanding of CNC milling with setups, offsets and machining principles and tooling
  • Strong ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and GD&T
  • Proficiency in G-code programming required: ability to read/interpret and make controlled edits/debug fixes
  • Skilled in the use of precision measuring equipment
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Leadership mindset with the ability to train and guide others

Skills to be considered as assets

  • CAM exposure (Mastercam or similar)
  • Familiar with Fanuc-style, and Seimens controls
  • Fixture/work holding experience; probing/tool setters/macros

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Technical certification or vocational training in machining preferred
  • 5 years of hands-on CNC machining experience (or equivalent expertise)

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing or shop-floor environment
  • Standing for extended periods; lifting and handling materials as required
  • May involve shift work or overtime based on production needs

Position Information

  • Monday to Friday
  • Full-Time
  • Must have valid drivers license and own reliable transportation
  • Travel may be required in the Edmonton area
