Technical Leadership & Delivery
Author, review, and approve technical design documents for complex features and systems. Provide technical direction for end-to-end project delivery, encompassing implementation, deployment, and monitoring. Design and contribute significantly to new systems and features, making informed judgments to achieve team objectives. Manage single or multiple projects from start to finish, adapting to complexity levels. Lead team processes such as on-call rotations, code reviews, and incident management. Convert high-level goals and ambiguous business needs into actionable architectures. System Architecture & Quality
Enhance code quality and address technical debts within the team’s codebase proactively. Identify, propose, and implement scalable solutions beneficial to the team. Develop systems or features that improve the team's ability to deliver exceptional work. Address high-impact debt and quality issues while maintaining existing systems. Lead the team in troubleshooting, bug triage, and performance improvements. Ensure solutions are practical for both internal and external stakeholders. Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing
Guide, coach, and mentor junior engineers on your team. Share expertise and knowledge, amplifying the impact of your skills. Enhance the efficiency of fellow engineers through best practices and guidance. Take ownership of unclaimed or challenging tasks to help the team progress faster. Collaborate with Engineering Managers and Product Managers to advocate for priority initiatives. Qualifications
A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience with a track record of delivering complex systems. Proven capability to lead technical projects and mentor other software engineers. In-depth knowledge of at least one frontend framework (React, TypeScript). Experience in building and scaling distributed systems in production. Strong grasp of system design, architecture patterns, and trade-offs. Ability to clarify ambiguous requirements and drive technical clarity effectively. Experience in leading incident responses and conducting post-mortems. Preferred Experience
Experience in risk management, fraud detection, or large-scale financial systems. Knowledge of machine learning models implemented in production. Familiarity with real-time event processing and streaming architectures (e.g., Kafka, Flink). Understanding of payment systems (e.g., ACH, credit cards, crypto) and related fraud patterns. Experience with regulatory compliance and security standards. A proven history of enhancing team productivity through tools and process optimization. Technical Skills
Expert-level proficiency in React and TypeScript/JavaScript. Deep understanding of modern frontend architectures and performance optimization techniques. Experience with state management solutions and component design systems. Strong understanding of web security best practices and accessibility standards. Experience in building complex, data-rich user interfaces. A record of improving the frontend development experience and tools. Job #: GPFE05US Pay Transparency Notice: Depending on your work location, the target annual base salary for this position ranges from $180,625 to $212,000 USD. Offers from Coinbase also include bonus eligibility, equity opportunities, and benefits (including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k)).
