Customs and Border Protection Officer Job Description

This is a career ladder position with opportunities for advancement to GS-9, GS-11, and GS-12. As a Customs and Border Protection Officer (CBPO), you will be part of our 60,000+ workforce that strives to protect the American people by safeguarding our borders.

• Enforcing customs laws:  Enforce customs laws related to agricultural products including importation of fruits and vegetables in compliance with regulations issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS).


• Facilitating legitimate trade:  Process travelers arriving at ports-of-entry via land or sea who declare goods they are bringing into or taking out of the country. 
  


• Traffic Enforcement:  Conducting inspections on individuals entering/leaving US including interviews as required regarding items brought into/out of country. , Note : this includes monitoring cargo vehicles throughout 3 stages & keeping electronic record .
