Job Description
Teledyne DALSA is a subsidiary of Teledyne Technologies Inc., a U.S. publicly listed enterprise, and specializes in the manufacture, design, research and development of high performance CMOS and CCD image sensors and modular expandable cameras. Teledyne DALSA's products are used worldwide in machine vision, document scanning, image capture, surveillance, process monitoring, manufacturing inspection, medical imaging, and multimedia.
The Advanced Imaging group develops both full custom and semi-custom image sensors and cameras for Airborne, Space, and Life Science applications.
As a Mechanical Design Specialist of one or more projects, you will be responsible for mechanical product design, fixture design, product testing, and development of assembly processes. You will work with a team that may include project managers, electronics design specialists, process engineers, and test specialists.
The Mechanical Design Specialist must also interact with other Teledyne groups including manufacturing and purchasing.
What you`ll do:
Lead the mechanical design and drive all mechanical aspects of product development, following a rigorous design control process
Develop (and subsequently validate) product designs that are complete, thorough, and work together as a system, designing for performance, manufacturing, assembly, and reliability in the field
Develop assembly processes for complex electronic/optical products requiring precise alignment and tight control of geometric tolerances such as flatness
Perform hand calculations and review FEA to develop, assess, and optimize designs
Rapidly iterate on manufacturing processes and development testing in a fast-paced environment
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure hardware, sensors, and optics integrate with systems and support necessary project operations
Lead mechanical design reviews internally and externally with suppliers and customers
Negotiate complex trade studies to optimize for cost, schedule, product safety, and performance, among other considerations

What you need:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 5-8 years relevant design experience
Self-motivated with strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills
Proficient and frequent use of hand calculations and computer-aided designs (CAD)
Demonstrated understanding of structural and thermal performance, analysis, and failure modes
Solid understanding and application of GD&T & tolerance analysis
Experience working with PCB designers and hardware manufacturing
Facilitation of swift decisions to advance developments. Identify and overcome unclear direction or unanswered questions critical to progress. Reduce complicated development issues to closure.
Ability to translate technology choices into product cost and performance implications, including a broad understanding of component fabrication techniques.
Clear and concise communication of complex technical information both to management and to your development team
Demonstration of excellent grasp of language, both in written and verbal presentation
Eligible for Controlled Goods Security Clearance
Assets to have
Experience in mechanical design for electronics and optical products
Designing manufacturing equipment and processes for ultra-clean environments
Experience with AutoDesk Inventor and AutoCAD
PCB design experience
Structural/Thermal FEA experience
Experience in designing for high-reliability environments, such as Space.
Experience with ECSS and MIL standards
Occasional travel may be expected to support vendors and product testing.

Salary Range:
$93,700.00-$124,900.000Pay Transparency
