As one of Canada's Best Managed Companies, Fresh Direct Produce is looking for a skilled Maintenance Technician to support our  team in a 6-month contract role  

As a Maintenance Technician, you will help ensure our facility, equipment, and warehouse systems run efficiently and safely. Reporting to the Facilities Manager, you will perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance, support contractors, respond to urgent equipment issues, and maintain compliance with company and food safety standards.

This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently in a fast‑paced production and warehouse environment.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES include:


Equipment & Facility Maintenance
  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and adjustments to maximize equipment uptime.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical components (bearings, belts, pumps, valves, pneumatics, hydraulics).
  • Operate and maintain equipment such as forklifts, power jacks, and repacking machinery.

Safety, Compliance & Worksite Preparation
  • Follow all company safety protocols including lockout/tagout and PPE requirements.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and hazard‑free work areas aligned with 5S standards.
  • Ensure compliance with HACCP/GFSI food safety program requirements.

Work Planning & Documentation
  • Review maintenance requests, prioritize tasks, and communicate updates as needed.
  • Conduct routine facility inspections and report hazards or deficiencies.

Emergency Response 
  • Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns and urgent repair needs.
  • Support facility‑related emergencies, including hazardous or severe conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS include:
  • Industrial Maintenance Mechanic experience in a production, warehouse, or plant environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands‑on skills with hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment (e.g., welders, drills, cutting tools).
  • General knowledge of plumbing, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
  • Entry‑level knowledge of HACCP/GFSI standards (asset).
  • Ability to work independently and troubleshoot effectively.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and compliance.
  • Physical ability to walk frequently, work in coolers and loading dock areas, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Licenses
  • Power Pallet Jack certification
  • Forklift certification
