In this role, the Project Engineer (Project Manager) will provide leadership, direction, and professional engineering guidance to the Midstream to ensure safe, cost-effective and timely execution of projects. You will be an integral part of $100M+ annual capital project portfolio across the Midstream, which spans over 50,000 assets across >20 facilities in five provinces and two states.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 5 years relevant oil and gas industry experience, preferably in Refinery, Pipelines or Distribution operations

  • 5 years of project leadership experience with accountability for resourcing, integrated team leadership, budgeting, scheduling and strategic planning with a demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and develop technical and project staff

  • Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical or Chemical Engineering

  • Project expertise in the development and execution of complex, multi-disciplinary projects and familiarity with the interrelationship of all engineering disciplines

  • Demonstrated understanding of project management best practices, tools, applications and KPIs in support of development and execution of safe, reliable, cost effective and timely projects

  • Excellent communication (written, verbal, and listening), change management, non-authoritative leadership and organizational skills. Bilingual is an asset

  • Understands complexity of implementing change at multiple locations/sites. Able to influence long range business plans

Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for safe, cost-effective and timely execution of portfolio of high profile economic, renewable fuels, risk mitigation and regulatory compliance projects across the >20 Midstream owned and operated sites

  • Lead and direct the efforts of the integrated team to deliver a portfolio of safe, efficient and effective capital projects

  • Measure and manage the effectiveness of projects by stewarding process key performance indicators (KPI), leveraging the Best Practice performance indicators (PI)

  • Ensure the integrated team effectively prioritize and execute a portfolio of high-profile projects within the constraints of the long-range capital plan, the major event calendar (MEC) and planned site outages

  • Ensure all health, safety and environmental standards are upheld; monitor the effective application of project development and execution best practices and addresses actions arising from gate reviews, field level risk assessments, critical controls assurance activities, and incident learning program

  • Coach, mentor and develop the integrated team, review and manage their performance, and ensure provision of appropriate training and development

  • Optimize the project execution strategy across their portfolio of projects, including, but not limited to, defining optimal contracting strategies, technical specifications and streamlining project execution.

Location & Other Key Details

  • You will work out our Calgary Head Office - located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 –6th Ave S.W.

  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday

  • This is an office-based role with regular overnight travel throughout Canada

  • Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
