The Katzie First Nation Public Works Team is seeking a temporary full-time Junior Maintenance Worker to support general repairs within the Katzie community. This position is a short-term backfill to cover a cultural leave and is expected to be approximately four (4) weeks in duration. This is a SASET-funded position.
Working under the Public Works and Maintenance Supervisor, the successful applicant will gain hands-on experience providing maintenance services across Katzie IR#1, IR#2, and IR#3. This role offers an excellent opportunity to build practical maintenance skills, and Katzie Band members with a strong interest in learning and contributing to the community are encouraged to apply.
What You'll Do:
•Ensure a safe work environment for the Maintenance and Public Works team.
•Assist with basic plumbing, electrical, and wood framing repairs.
•Assist with minor roof repairs.
•Minor maintenance of roads, bridges, culverts & parking lots.
•Perform routine preventative maintenance on tools and equipment.
•Work with the Public Works and Maintenance team to troubleshoot building envelope leaks, siding, weather-stripping, and windows.
•Provide groundskeeping services such as landscaping maintenance, snow removal, and safety salt placement where required around KFN public buildings.
•Moving & assembling furniture and special events equipment
•Small water systems repairs & maintenance, such as bleeding & maintaining hydrants and lift station maintenance.
• Communicate with the Supervisor on any priority projects or problems.
•Assist with setting up and tearing down of events
What We're Looking For:
• Experience in using hand & power tools is an asset.
• Respect for working within health and safety regulations and preventive measures.
• Exemplary work ethic, with a willingness to learn.
• Interest in the maintenance and repairs of small power tools (e.g. pumps, power washers, mowers, weed whackers, etc.)
• Willing to work in all weather and on-call, including weekends, evenings & emergencies
• Ability to exercise sound judgment when carrying out duties and to maintain good working relationships with the public and fellow employees.
•Able to fulfill the physical requirements of the position, including working from heights, lifting, and carrying up to 50 lbs.
•Knowledge of First Nations communities and culture and experience working with the community an asset
•Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (vulnerable sector)
•Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driver's abstract is an asset
