- Two-year Diploma in Engineering Technology
- Minimum of 8 years of work experience in a technical role involving public interaction
- Experience within waste management, urban planning, or development
- Proven experience in a supervisory or leadership capacity
- Must be eligible to be recognized as a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET), EIT or P.Eng with ASET
Skills required for success:
- Knowledge of industry methods used in building design, studies and analyses procedures, practices and terminology as related to the work assigned
- Knowledge of departmental and civic policies, regulations and operations affecting the work assigned
- Experience in customer service and interest holder engagement
- Ability to foster a supportive, inclusive, and empowered team environment while holding staff accountable for high-quality outputs
- Strong ability to read, interpret, and comment on complex architectural drawings and plans
- Skill in translating complex technical information clearly and persuasively to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to handle difficult conversations and professionally resolve disputes with developers or community partners
- Strong verbal and written communication skills including experience report writing
- Well developed problem solving, time management, and priority setting skills, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines
- Proficiency with technical software such as AutoCAD, AutoTURN, POSSE, SLIM, and ArcGIS
- Experience in customer service and engagement with diverse interested and affected parties
- Self-motivated with the ability to work in a team environment under limited supervision using sound professional judgment
- Ability to effectively interact, communicate, influence, and collaborate with a variety of partners and stakeholders, including senior management, other City staff, developers, architects, and property managers.

Conditions of Employment:
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
- Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a requirement for this position

Work Environment:
- Ability to conduct site visits in various outdoor environmental conditions (extreme temperatures, precipitation, etc.)
- Note\: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance

Waste Services is looking for a Development Planning Assessment Supervisor to lead a dedicated team in ensuring new residential developments are designed for safe, efficient, and sustainable waste collection. This role is vital to the City's growth, balancing technical standards with collaborative problem-solving to support a high quality of life for all residents. What will you do?
- Lead and supervise the Development Planning Assessment team, providing expert guidance, coaching, and workload management
- Review and approve technical work related to development permit applications, land use, and rezoning to ensure compliance with City standards and bylaws
- Act as the primary point of contact for Waste Services on engineering standards and bylaws that impact future City planning and residential access
- Liaise with developers, architects, and internal departments to advocate for waste disposal integration early in the development process
- Conduct site visits to verify construction alignment with approved plans and provide final inspections before service handover
- Drive process improvements within the permit pipeline and maintain the "Development Standards for Residential Waste Collection"
- Resolve complex or contentious applications, serving as an escalation point for disputes with interested parties
