Monday to Friday; days

  1. Masters degree in related field (Business, Health Care, Industrial Engineering, Epidemiology)

  2. Expert knowledge and/or advanced certification in process/quality improvement methods and tools (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).

  3. Work experience in, or applicable to, hospital settings, and health care and service delivery issues across the continuum of care (e.g., acute, community, long-term care, private practice, planning and policy).

  4. Experience with (re)designing and optimizing processes, resource utilization, work flow, and patient /customer experience.

  5. Experience accessing, synthesizing and leveraging the most current knowledge (research literature, publications) to inform evidence-based decisions and support change and improvement.

  6. Demonstrated sophisticated use of various data sources (e.g., external benchmarking reports, internal databases, work load measurement, satisfaction surveys, and quality of work-life surveys).

  7. Demonstrated ability to identify, collect, analyze, interpret, and realize value-add from data relevant to opportunities, questions and problems at hand.

  8. Proven skills in statistics and experimental design and a commitment to learning.

  9. Demonstrate expertise and ability to train, teach and coach individuals and teams in the application of quality improvement methods and tools.

  10. Proven project management skills to ensure improvement initiatives are planned and executed according to established time, budget and other resource constraints.

  11. Proven leadership abilities, effective communication (written and verbal), report writing, business case development, facilitation and coaching skills, and the ability to design and deliver effective presentations.

  12. Knowledge of effective change management strategies and proven success as a change agent.

  13. Possess excellent interpersonal skills dealing/collaborating with diverse professional stakeholder groups in both "corporate" and local situations.

  14. Proficiency in use of office support software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, MS  Project, and Access) and in use of statistical software packages (e.g. Minitab, SPSS-PC, Process MA) and process design/improvement software packages (e.g. Simul8, Med Model, Arena, Visio)

The Quality Specialist plays a critical role in advancing the Trauma and Burn Program's Quality initiatives by supporting the development, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of processes that ensure compliance with patient care standards, program requirements, and reporting obligations. This position drives meaningful improvements by facilitating quality projects using proven methodologies, developing and coordinating Standard Operating Procedures, and organizing internal audits while supporting external audits such as verification processes. The role emphasizes building strong relationships and engaging stakeholders to foster collaboration, conducting root cause analyses to identify underlying issues, and developing actionable plans to ensure effective loop closure. Additionally, the Quality Specialist monitors non-conformances, manages occurrence reporting and corrective/preventive actions, and leverages data collection and analysis to uncover opportunities for impactful change—ultimately contributing to safer, higher-quality care for patients.

The Trauma and Burn Program provides local, provincial and national leadership collaborating with community partners to support the delivery of high-quality patient care in a safe, effective and efficient manner. The Trauma and Burn Program is responsible for the collection, validation, and reporting of trauma and burn data.
