What you'll do:
Reporting to the Food Store Manager, the Bakery Manager is responsible for the overall operations of the Bakery department to improve guest service, program execution and company profitability. This includes scheduling, team performance management, budgeting and attainment of financial results along with the overall management of image, standards, implementation and adherence to company programs, policies and procedures as well as human resources related activities.
Reporting to the Food Store Manager, responsibilities for this position include the following:
- Manage the Bakery Department in accordance with the company policies, procedures, programs, merchandising standards and overall expectations.
- Rotates and stores bakery products following proper food safety, food freshness, and product handling policies and procedures. Ensures all displays are clean and stocked. Assists with cake decorations as needed.
- Evaluates the production of bakery products. Proofs and bakes all unfinished bakery products by following product handling information using ovens and/or other equipment. Determines and gathers bakery products to be prepared for the next business day.
- Receives and inspects bakery shipments. Conducts bakery inventories as assigned by the Food Store Manager. Orders and maintains bakery supplies as necessary.
- Ensures that all products are fresh and meet company quality standards. Maintains the proper rotation of received goods. Checks for out-of-date products daily and follows salvage and stale product policies and procedures.
- Manage inventory levels and lead scheduled inventory procedures.
- Provide feedback to the Food Manager regarding recommendations for continued improvement of operations. Develop sales promotion programs to grow the bakery business.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding pricing, financial and marketing strategies.
- Develop and administer action plans to achieve the desired results of the business plan.
- Develop and maintain a team environment that is based on Otter Co-op's brand and values of Integrity, Community and Excellence .
- Provide leadership and direction in the development and achievement of operational and financial results including, sales, margins, expense, inventory and SPEH for your department.
- Provide leadership and work closely with Human Resources in the areas of team member relations, hiring, training, development, team performance management, discipline, recognition, termination, security, administration of policy and procedures and disability claims.
- Provide leadership in the areas of Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) including participation in OH&S activities, ensuring team members understand and comply with OH&S policies, procedures and legislation.
- Responsible to assist with adherence to government regulations in the areas of price integrity, labeling, sanitation and food and safety. Ensure maintenance on all equipment, including Health and Safety codes and all regulations are followed.
- Network and communicate professionally with suppliers and FCL Regional Sales Coordinator.
- Maintain guest service standards by tracking, monitoring and follow-up of guest comments and complaints in a timely efficient manner.
- Perform or assist with team performance reviews and action plans for development.
- Provide excellent service to guests in a courteous, efficient manner and within approved programs, policies and procedures.
- Liaison within the community as a representative for Otter Co-op.

Who you are:
- Must have a minimum of 3-5 years retail experience.
- Must have a minimum 2-3 years experience managing/supervising others.
- Previous retail management or bakery experience is an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word and the ability to manage computer files efficiently.
- Effective interpersonal, leadership and communications skills.
- Motivation and ability to work in a busy environment.
- Effective planning, organization and time management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrate the ability to maintain relationships outside of the organization that support the organization.
- This position is based out of our Retail Centre, though it may be required on some occasions to travel and work at other locations as needed.
- Must be available 7 days a week to work between early mornings, afternoons and late evenings.
