A Day in the Life: 

The Manager, Automation Services is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing automation systems and electrical infrastructure, while ensuring efficient, effective, and consistent maintenance practices. This role oversees the ongoing operation and strategic direction of automation systems and electrical infrastructure for inland and port terminals across North America.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Collaborate with management, BT, and industry contacts to lead the development, implementation, and support of strategic and tactical plans related to automation and electrical systems.

  • Manage risk by ensuring standardized practices and processes are in place for automation and electrical infrastructure across North America; lead the continuous improvement of these standards.

  • Direct the development of North American strategies to ensure consistent analysis of business and operational practices, identifying and implementing opportunities for optimization and innovation.

  • Plan the work activities of staff and associated project teams to complete system development and installation, monitoring performance to ensure the achievement of planned results.

  • Create an environment that fosters teamwork, results, and continuous improvement. Implement proactive Health, Safety, Environment, and Security programs under the functional guidance of the Environment, Health, and Safety  teams.

  • Direct the development and management of operating and capital budgets for automation and electrical initiatives across North America. Set departmental objectives and goals to align with regional priorities.

  • Manage supplier relationships to achieve productivity gains and improvement in the supply of goods and services related to automation and electrical.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends. Evaluate the performance of equipment and components relative to company requirements and recommend upgrades or utilization changes as appropriate.

  • Develop, coordinate, and implement automation system training strategies and initiatives.

  • Prepare and deliver regular and ad hoc reports that highlight work unit achievements, challenges, and opportunities, ensuring alignment with business unit, divisional, and corporate administrative requirements.

  • Partner with Procurement to negotiate, manage, and evaluate the services of contracted resources.

  • Partner with Human Resources to attract, develop, and retain a talented team through effective hiring, promotion, training, and performance management strategies, fostering a culture of continuous growth and motivation.

Skills/Experience Requirements: 

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible technical experience and management in the automation and electrical industry, including five (5) years within the grain industry.

  • University Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline. Additional studies in business administration are preferred.

  • Highly developed leadership, team collaboration, communication, and innovation skills.

  • Trained in Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems including installations and operation experience.

  • Proven knowledge in the selection, implementation, and function of hardware and software of PLC and HMI systems.

  • Proven knowledge of facility construction and maintenance methods, practices, and standards.
