About the role

This position is directly responsible for leading and directing the Underground Mobile Equipment Mechanical Crews, while ensuring they work in a safe and productive manner. This position applies maintenance practices in alignment with Evolution Mining's business objectives, maintenance strategy and production goals, during the daily execution of maintenance activities on underground mobile equipment.  This position participates actively to implement and execute maintenance plans in a rapidly changing underground environment.  This position facilitates the safety of staff, the community, and the environment, while communicating on a regular basis about equipment performance including availability, reliability, repeated problems, and cost.  This position works closely with the Planner, Scheduler, Reliability Engineer, and other Supervisors using a team approach to solve problems. This role is to recruit for an existing vacancy.

We offer a competitive salary, bonus structure and future growth. The compensation range for this role is $136,633 to $184,857 CAD.

Key result areas in this role include:

  • Direct the activities of multi-craft mobile maintenance crews by leading and managing the work assignments for direct reports and encouraging subordinates to set and accomplish goals.
  • Set goals and objectives, and effectively manage the work performance of subordinates including cost management and control of maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with Tradespersons in the development and validation of maintenance procedures.
  • Verify that work orders are completed and follow-up data and work history is of sufficient quality, collected and entered into the SAP system as needed for future data analysis.
  • Review and approve: work order technician comments, daily time cards, vacation requests, accident & injury reports, and disciplinary action reports.
  • Create new SAP Work Orders for corrective work or future inspections that are needed, as identified by work crews during the course of equipment repairs.
  • Perform job task observations and conduct planned inspections.
  • Effectively develop and manage the performance of others. Willing to extend personal technical knowledge, skills and experience by directing and delegating job assignments to others.
  • Support the evaluation of preventive maintenance programs and report key metrics to Management.
  • Plan, prioritize and lead the execution of daily maintenance work. Coordinate implementation of preventive and corrective maintenance for underground mining equipment.
  • Manage emergency and breakdown work, defined as any work identified after the weekly maintenance schedule is posted, and order parts or materials as required.
  • Inspect and report on work performed by outside mechanical contractors and perform evaluations of contractors and suppliers.
  • Review and report on Engineering and Construction projects.
  • Perform the validation of contractor safety certificates and qualifications.
  • Advise the scheduler during their creation of the weekly maintenance work schedule and participate in the weekly maintenance schedule review meeting.
  • Coordinate activities out of regular day shift hours as required (call out service).
  • Implement a process of continuous improvement in line with the guidelines of Reliability Engineering.
  • Support engineers in documentation of design changes, equipment modifications, and future job requirements.
  • Interact with Technical Services, Maintenance and Operations departments
  • Review specifications and make recommendations for new equipment purchases.
  • Collaborate in the identification of important improvements to be included in the annual budget.
  • Maintain a high commitment to personal safety, the integrity of the environment, and equipment reliability during the execution of work orders.
  • Identify, assess and alleviate risks related to maintenance work.  Work to reduce risk for oneself and others.
  • Prepare plan and lead monthly crew safety meetings.
  • Comply with federal and provincial acts and regulations, and legal requirements.
  • Comply with corporate policies and procedures including but not limited to safety, confidentiality and environmental policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

About you

It is important that you have/ can demonstrate:

  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • High School diploma or equivalent, and
  • Certified Interprovincial Mechanical Certificate, or
  • Mechanical Technologist / Mechanical Engineering / Mining Engineering Diploma.
  • Minimum 7 years experience with industrial mobile equipment, preferably in mining.
  • At least 2 years experience in Maintenance or Operations in a supervisory role.
  • Familiar with underground mining equipment.
  • Good computer skills including Microsoft Office and SAP.
  • An aptitude for quickly learning and adapting to new computer programs
