The Opportunity: 

Reporting initially to the Chief People & Culture Officer, this role plays a key part in bringing to life Tantalus' strategic talent vision, the roadmap for how we attract, engage, and hire the people who power our growth. The overall vision and talent strategy are defined at the Chief People & Culture Officer level, and this role is accountable for operationalizing and executing them through strong process design, delivery, and partnership across the business.

Once the function is fully established, the position will transition under the Director, People & Culture to ensure close integration with HR operations and business partnership.

You'll help build and evolve the company's talent acquisition infrastructure, ensuring alignment with our broader people strategy. You'll work directly with hiring managers across functions and geographies to deliver exceptional hires, streamline processes, and strengthen our employer brand. You'll also evaluate and optimize our vendor ecosystem to ensure the right partnerships are in place to support sustainable growth. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role, one that translates vision into execution while continuously improving how recruiting operates to make it faster, smarter, and more scalable.

Location of Position:

This position will be a hybrid position based in our Burnaby, BC office.

Specifically, the Talent Acquisition Manager will: 

Manager & Department Partnering

  • Partner with hiring managers to understand team needs, design job postings, and align interview and selection processes.
  • Influence and guide hiring managers to make timely, data-driven hiring decisions.
  • Coach managers on interviewing, candidate evaluation, and onboarding best practices.
  • Provide regular updates, market insights, and data to keep managers informed and aligned.

Full-Cycle Recruitment Execution

  • Lead a high-volume portfolio of requisitions across all functions and regions, balancing multiple stakeholders and competing priorities from intake through offer close and onboarding hand-off.
  • Source, screen, and engage candidates directly while strategically leveraging external partners to scale capacity when required.
  • Deliver an exceptional candidate experience that authentically reflects our values and culture.
  • Own and continuously improve key hiring metrics (time-to-fill, cost-per-hire, and quality-of-hire) ensuring pace and consistency.
  • Provide quarterly talent acquisition insights and performance reporting to the Chief People & Culture Officer.

Vendor & Agency Management

  • Assess the effectiveness of current external recruitment vendors and partnerships.
  • Define what should remain, where to consolidate, and what new partnerships or capabilities are required to support growth.
  • Negotiate and manage contracts, set performance expectations, and implement vendor scorecards.
  • Track and manage recruitment-related spend, ensuring alignment with budget and ROI targets.
  • Build a sustainable, high-performing vendor ecosystem that complements internal recruiting capacity and aligns with business goals.

Employer Brand

  • Execute the employer brand strategy defined by the Chief People & Culture Officer, ensuring consistent storytelling, market presence, and candidate experience.
  • Develop our careers site, candidate materials, social presence, and recruitment content.
  • Partner with Marketing/Comms to bring the employee experience to life through storytelling, visuals, and campaigns.
  • Build brand awareness in target talent markets through creative, data-informed approaches (events, partnerships, campaigns).
  • Measure and refine employer brand effectiveness through analytics and candidate feedback.

Co-op, New Grad, and Early-Career Programs

  • Design and manage our co-op, internship, and new graduate programs.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with universities, colleges, and career centers.
  • Represent Tantalus at career fairs, campus events, and industry networking opportunities to build visibility and attract top early-career talent.
  • Maintain active relationships with current and former co-ops/new grads, ensuring meaningful internal experiences and the right structure and mentorship.
  • Track outcomes such as conversion, retention, and engagement to continuously improve these programs.

Recruitment Operations & Insights

  • Standardize and document recruitment processes for consistency and scalability.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to streamline workflows, remove friction, and improve efficiency across all stages of hiring.
  • Evaluate and recommend tools, systems, and platforms that enhance recruiting performance.
  • Build dashboards to track time-to-fill, source effectiveness, and other KPIs.
  • Surface insights to hiring managers and the Chief People & Culture Officer to inform workforce decisions and planning.

What you Bring: 

Education and Experience  

  • 5–7 years of progressive talent acquisition experience, ideally in a growth-stage or scaling organization.
  • Proven success managing multiple searches and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Experience recruiting across regions (Canada and the U.S.) and adapting approaches to different market dynamics.
  • Experience assessing, building, and managing vendor ecosystems.
  • Experience building or supporting co-op, intern, or early-career programs.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with managers and candidates.
  • A builder's mindset; energized by evolving existing processes while creating new systems and a distinct employer brand foundation from the ground up.
  • Data-driven approach and comfort with recruiting tools, analytics, and automation.
