In this role, you will develop and oversee the tactical maintenance plan for all application equipment, always balancing cost effectiveness with operational reliability. You will support the Manager by assessing equipment performance, identifying risks, and recommending proactive solutions that strengthen our ability to deliver exceptional service to our customers. Major Job Functions:

Maintenance Planning & Strategy Development (40%)

  • Develop the equipment maintenance strategy and long‑range maintenance plan with clear timelines, roles, and responsibilities between Maintenance and Production.
  • Develop maintenance schedules for daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual inspections and planned maintenance activities.
  • Plan, prepare, and validate clarity of approved work orders to ensure efficient scheduling, sequencing, and execution using the CMMS.
  • Define procedures, drawings, equipment, and materials required to perform planned work.
  • Develop, revise, and review maintenance work procedures to ensure compliance with codes, standards, and vendor requirements.
  • Maintain and update the maintenance information library and Reliability‑Centered Maintenance scheduling requirements.

Maintenance Execution, Coordination & Field Oversight (25%)

  • Coordinate with the Maintenance Supervisor to execute the maintenance plan, including scheduling internal labour, contractors, and material resources.
  • Conduct in‑plant and field walkdowns to validate maintenance needs, improve work order quality, and perform job package reviews.
  • Facilitate work order preparation, including permits for hot work, confined space, lockout, fire suppression, and other required controls.
  • Perform root cause analysis and risk assessments as required.
  • Provide project management for contractors performing inspections, PMs, repairs, and annual programs (e.g., cranes, fire suppression, winterizations).
  • Report on major repair requirements and safety incidents.
  • Use creative problem‑solving to address backlogs, changing priorities, and equipment downtime.

Continuous Improvement, Reliability & Compliance (15%)

  • Evaluate job feedback to improve future work planning, execution, and reliability practices.
  • Recommend improved maintenance procedures and strategies to reduce costs and increase equipment availability.
  • Manage and control maintenance work order backlogs to ensure priority work is addressed.
  • Ensure compliance with internal standards, regulatory requirements, and maintenance best practices (e.g., OHS, WHMIS, emissions, vendor standards).
  • Monitor and report operability impairment and impact statements.
  • Be conversant with ADT Security and Simplex Fire Alarm system protocols as they relate to maintenance.

Stakeholder Engagement, Communication & Contractor Management (10%)

  • Interface collaboratively with Production and other internal partners to identify and resolve maintenance issues.
  • Participate in prioritization/scheduling meetings, trade coordination, and detailed contract requisition reviews.
  • Meet with supplier representatives to review equipment options, sourcing, and supply utilization.
  • Ensure parts requisitions, contractor service orders, and internal work orders are accurate, visible, and current in organizational systems.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and service manuals; provide reports and recommend actions.

Financial Management, Leadership & Training (10%)

  • Assist in preparation of the annual maintenance budget, monthly cost reviews, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Produce repair cost estimates and procurement recommendations for materials and external resources.
  • Train and mentor maintenance staff; support the development of supervisor and planner competencies.
  • Provide coverage for the Director during absences as required.

Education & Experience

  • Post‑secondary education in a related technical field is preferred.
  • Minimum 4+ years of technical experience in industrial maintenance planning within a multi‑discipline environment.
  • Required proven planning, scheduling, and organizational skills with the ability to lead maintenance program accountabilities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong technical knowledge of maintenance processes and legislated requirements (for example: WCB, OHS, EPA, WHMIS).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to break work down into logical, detailed steps and optimize maintenance planning activities.
  • Proven judgement and decision‑making capabilities.
  • Ability to respond to changing priorities, develop strategies, and adjust plans within electronic maintenance tracking systems.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook) and experience with CMMS work order systems.
  • Strong teamwork skills with behaviors that support a collaborative, team‑based environment.
  • Credibility and awareness of live plant work constraints, with a commitment to high standards and continuous improvement.
  • Preferred: Completion of supervisory or management training and development programs.
