The Intern, Marine Operations assists and gains hands-on experience in the field of marine operations gaining valuable industry experience during their internship. They will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of tasks from vessel operations, vessel and crewing dispatch, barge scheduling, customer service, safety and regulatory compliance and data analysis. This internship can serve as a steppingstone to a career in marine operations or related fields within the maritime industry.

The position will be shared across Marine's three operational divisions: Marine Personnel, Logistics/Dispatch and Port Captains. The Intern, Marine Operations will spend time working in all three departments, providing broad exposure and diverse learning opportunities.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 10 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver. 

What you'll do 

  • Assist in the day-to-day operations, which may include activities related to vessel and barge scheduling, crewing, mariner training, safety procedures and vessel compliance.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze data related to marine operations such as job orders, invoicing, customer scheduling requirements and vessel performance.
  • Help in maintaining and updating records, reports, and documentation including, but limited to, safety protocols, voyage plans, and compliance records and certificates.
  • Collaborate with various teams, departments and external stakeholders to ensure effective communication and coordination of marine operations activities.
  • Learn and adhere to safety regulations for Marine as well as industry standards to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Gain an understanding of unionized environments, including crew and vessel scheduling.
  • Participate in training programs related to marine operations, safety procedures and emergency response protocols.
  • Assist in identifying and resolving operational challenges and inefficiencies.
  • Other duties as required.

What you'll bring

  • Enrollment in an undergraduate degree in Marine Sciences, Maritime Management/Studies, Transportation & Logistics, Marine Navigational Cadetships or related degree program. 
  • Proficiency with reading and understanding complex regulatory documents.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong customer-service and team orientation.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Demonstrated track record and commitment to delivering results.

We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.
