Job Title: Manufacturing Associate I – Machine Shop 

Status: Full Time 

Reporting to:      Business Unit Leader  

Location: & 1080 Morrison Drive, Ottawa, ON

Pay: $18.80 /hour (afternoon shift premium of $0.80 in addition)

Overview:

We currently have an excellent opportunity in our manufacturing division's production shop. The Manufacturing Associate is responsible for operating and monitoring a variety of machine tools.  The job requires attention to detail and the desire to assure safety and quality at the work center. The successful candidate will be able to work both individually and as part of a group.  As a member of this dynamic team, the successful candidate will also participate in group problem solving and the development of Lean solutions.

Hours of work:

Rotation Shift (two-week rotation):

Week 1 & 2 - Monday to Friday :30 

Week 3 & 4 – Monday to Friday 15:00 – 23:30

 Key Responsibilities: 

• Perform repetitive manual tasks
• Testing with simple equipment (e.g. go/no go gauges, calipers, etc.)
• Operation of various machine shop equipment (including grinders, manual machine tools or hand tools, measuring instruments) or other manual operations
• Verifies part conformity using precise measuring equipment and part drawings Works to continually improve processes
• Able to do some basic set ups of a less complex nature.
• May be able to operate CNC machines.
• Maintaining a clean and orderly work area 

Knowledge and Skills:

• Demonstrated experience of using hand tools, manual tasks and mechanical aptitude. 
• Able to work as part of a team
• Attention to detail and methodical (organized) approach
• Ability to work under time constraints
• Strong desire for quality workmanship in a production environment
• A solid work ethic 
• Effective English communication skills 
• Good attendance and reliability

Working Conditions:

• This work is conducted in a Machine shop environment
• Work involves occasional exposure to major disagreeable elements, low risk of injury/harm, more stringent safety measures may be needed
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand: use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop or crouch.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
