Job Description: As a member of an interdisciplinary team and under the supervision of Management, the incumbent will be responsible for creating a therapeutic environment, where screening, triage, assessment, treatment can occur to those who are diagnosed with Substance Use Disorders and mental health concerns. Responsibilities include full assessment and history for both physical and mental health problems, full assessment of history and current stage of addiction, managing psychiatry referrals and availability for consultation, outreach opioid addiction treatment services, and providing informational programming as well as individual and group therapy sessions. As a nurse, you will administer medications and drug screening tests as required, as well as ECG's. The incumbent will provide nursing leadership and clinical expertise in the development and maintenance of community mental health and addiction treatment programs, and ensure nursing practice standards are maintained.

Education

  • Graduate from an approved School of Psychiatric Nursing or graduation from an approved school of general nursing supplemented by recognized post–graduate training in psychiatric nursing.
  • Outreach experience required.
  • PART and CPR certification required.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with patients experiencing substance use disorders mental health concerns and or BBI/STI related needs.
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise in assessment, diagnosis and treatment of major mental health disorders and substance dependency issues.

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to assess and treat addiction and withdrawal from opioids and other substances in both a clinic setting and an outreach community setting.
  • Knowledge and skills related to mental and physical needs of clients, such as reading lab results, using mental health and addictions screening and assessment tools, assessing opioid use disorder and ability to differentiate withdrawal from different substances, assessing dual diagnosis, making referrals, recovery plans.
  • Excellent knowledge of mood altering medications and how clients are affected by these.
  • Demonstrated competency in psychiatric mental health assessment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mental health and addictions community outreach and competence in delivering mental health and addiction interventions.
  • Knowledge of mood altering medications and how clients and their families are affected by these, whether these be prescribed or diverted substances.
  • Ability to develop and present educational information for both clients, team members and other agencies.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of screening and assessment tools and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture and practices.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of a Holistic Addiction Treatment Model, the transtheoretical Model of Change and the Developmental Model of Recovery (SMRS)
  • Ability to develop and present workshops and lecture material to clients and the community.
  • Ability to facilitate and initiate program development and create strong bonds with other addiction service providers.
  • Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of community resources in the addictions field.
  • Ability to work independently to plan and prioritize workload demands.
  • Knowledge of best practices in addiction field and harm reduction strategies.

  • Current registration with the Registration Psychiatric Nursing Association of Saskatchewan (RPNAS) and/or current registration with the Registration College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)
  • Valid driver's license and use of a vehicle for work.
