In collaboration with the Alberta Courts, Court and Justice Services provide various programs and services including educating and helping Albertans find solutions for legal issues, navigating the court system, offering programs at no cost or a nominal charge, and administrative support to all courts in Alberta.
The Ministry of Justice plays a vital role in ensuring a fair and effective justice system for Albertans. Within the Ministry, Court Technology Services (CTS) provides innovative Information Management and Technology (IMT) and data services to Alberta's three courts: the Court of Appeal, the Court of King's Bench, and the Court of Justice. CTS supports the digital transformation of court services, operational effectiveness, and the administration of justice through robust information systems, data platforms, and modern service delivery models.
Court Technology Services provides and supports the technology tools to power the court and justice system throughout Alberta.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Court Technology Services, the Director, Application Management & Data Services is a strategic leadership role responsible for driving innovation, operational excellence, and modernization in court data and application services.
In this role, you will oversee end-to-end delivery of application services, including development, architecture, enhancement, and support for critical court systems. It also leads the design and implementation of advanced analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions to support evidence-based decision-making and enhance court operations.
You will play a pivotal role in managing data governance, integration, and stewardship, ensuring that data is treated as a strategic asset across Alberta's judiciary. By fostering strong partnerships with stakeholders, the Director ensures seamless, system-wide service delivery that supports public confidence in Alberta's justice system.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and delivery of integrated data management, sharing, analytics, and AI capabilities to support evidence-informed decision-making.
- Oversee data governance practices to ensure secure, scalable, and efficient use of court data.
- Manage outsourced and in-house application development, maintenance, and modernization of legacy platforms.
- Build a Centre of Excellence in data and application services to provide responsive, client-focused service delivery.
- Foster strong partnerships with court stakeholders, technology teams, and service providers to ensure effective system-wide coordination.

QualificationsRequired
- University degree in a related field such as Business Administration and Information Technology, Computer Science supplemented by a minimum of seven years' related experience is required.
- Experience in supervision, management & leadership roles are also required.
Equivalency:
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; OR
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
Preference will be given based on following:
- Extensive experience in application management, data governance, and technology leadership, preferably within a public sector or judicial environment.
- Proven expertise in managing large-scale application development and modernization projects, including legacy system transformation.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing diverse, multidisciplinary teams in an agile environment.
- Working knowledge of data analytics, AI, and emerging technologies is a significant asset.
- Experience with finance and procurement functions.
- Progressive management experience and adaptive to political environment.
- Strong working knowledge of Alberta legislation and governance systems.
- Knowledge of all areas of the court system, statues, policies, and procedures is considered an asset.
