Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS–related work, Seaspan Shipyards is leading the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.
The Data & Integrations Intern will collaborate with the Applications Development team within the Business Technology Solutions department on projects that will expand Vancouver Shipyards' data operations. This role will actively participate in developing, testing, and documenting ETL and integration projects and their associated components. The intern demonstrates professionalism, initiative, and a proactive approach to challenges while applying strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills to deliver high-quality work and support continuous learning and growth.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 889 Harbourside Drive, North Vancouver.
What you'll do
• Identify relevant data sources that fulfill project goals
• Develop end-to-end ETL processes for data procurement and integration aligned with architectural design and available tools
• Actively participate in implementing efficient data workflows
• Support best practices in data modeling methodologies for effective dataset design
• Support the establishment and enforcement of data quality standards and practices
• Develop data quality monitoring, alerting, and profiling processes
• Write and maintain documentation including requirements, data infrastructure, source catalogs, data models, ETL runbooks, and quality standards
• Work closely with the development team to ensure solutions align with business use cases and established practices
What you'll bring
• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Data Science, Big Data, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field
• Coursework or project experience in databases, data structures, or software development
• Familiarity with at least one programming language such as Python or SQL
• Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and curiosity to learn
• Self-driven, collaborative, and organized work style
• Interest in cloud platforms such as Azure or Oracle Cloud
• Exposure to IDEs such as Visual Studio or VS Code and version control practices

We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.
