Senior Frontend Engineer on the Core Scribd team, focusing on building and maintaining the frontend for Scribds document reading page. Work spans from React-based UI to distributed backend services, collaborating with product, design, AI/ML, and infrastructure teams. A major 2026 focus is Web Modernization: migrating the Doc Page SPA to a Next.js-powered Microfrontend architecture. Responsibilities
Shape the core experience for 10M+ daily readers and impact how users explore and learn from Scribds 300,000+ document corpus. Experiment at the intersection of product and AI; prototype and launch experiments with Product, Design, and AI/ML teams to elevate engagement and comprehension on the document reading page. Build new creation experiences from 0?1 to empower users to synthesize research and produce study guides, presentations, and documents, enhanced by generative AI. Improve SEO and AEO in collaboration with the SEO PM to drive traffic to Core Scribd pages. Modernize tech stack by leading efforts to decompose the Ruby-on-Rails monolith into a modular Microfrontend architecture powered by Next.js and a distributed backend. Key Attributes
Ability to work cross-functionally with PM, Data, Design, QE, MLE, and backend engineers. Coordinate across backend, ML, data, and platform teams; collaborate with Product and Design. Strong customer empathy and long-term architectural thinking for frontend systems. Ability to communicate trade-offs and decisions clearly with data support. Requirements
Strong understanding of modern JavaScript frameworks, especially React. 35 years of experience across the stack, specifically React, Next.js, and Ruby on Rails. Experience with SQL databases (Postgres, MySQL). Understanding of AWS cloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines. Awareness of performance, accessibility, and SEO principles; strong collaboration skills with design and product teams; focus on code quality and maintainability. Bonus

Base pay ranges are determined by location and role. California: $146,000 to $227,500. United States (excl. CA): $120,000 to $216,500. Canada: $152,500 CAD to $194,500 CAD. Salary ranges may vary by level and geographic market; equity and benefits are also provided. Working at Scribd
