Description
Leidos is seeking a SRE Senior Network or Boundary Engineer to join the SRE BAN/LAN/WLAN pod or the WAN/DSTB Pod, within the SRE Transport domain to support the Service Management, Integration, and Transport (SMIT) Contract for the Navy-Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI). This position involves advanced support and maintenance of enterprise network switches, routers, Firewall, DMZ, VPN, and Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS) to ensure continuous threat protection and secure network operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead efforts to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex network issues in a dynamic environment.
- Configure and maintain Switches, Routers, Firewalls, VPNs, DMZs, Load Balancers, VLANs, Wireless APs, and IPS to ensure robust network security.
- Provide expertise and support for the largest Intranet in the world.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance network operations.
- Develop and maintain Engineering Implementation Plans (EIP).
- Serve as Tier III escalation support, including vendor engagement for incident management.
- Apply extensive knowledge of defense-in-depth principles to secure network infrastructure.
- Track all work in the agile framework using JIRA, attend DSUs, Retrospectives, and provide detailed demos for our PIs.
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis for problem management activities.
- Participate in engineering and project meetings to design future enterprise solutions.
- Create change management tickets for deployments, maintenance etc.
Mandatory Qualifications
- Education: B.S. Degree with 8–12 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s Degree with 6–10 years of relevant experience (substitutions at Hiring Manager’s discretion).
- Experience with the agile framework SAFe and JIRA.
- Clearance: Active DoD Secret clearance, Top Secret eligible.
- Certifications:
o DoD 8570.01 IAT Level III Certification (e.g., CASP, CISSP, CCNP Security).
o A Network Vendor Certification (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Aruba, F5, Palo Alto, McAfee, Trellix, Forcepoint, Brocade, Gigamon, Arista, Aruba).
Skills and Expertise
- Subject Matter Expertise in Network BAN/LAN/CAN/WAN/WLAN and Network Boundary engineering.
- Proficiency in performing highly technical network maintenance and configurations.
- Familiarity in providing Tier III escalation support for a 16,000+ device network across 450+ geographically dispersed locations.
- Experience being the SME and backstop for troubleshooting efforts across multiple network disciplines from other sections of CCNP/CCIE level network engineers.
- Extensive experience troubleshooting networks, including routing, switching, SD-WAN, WLAN, MPLS, VPNs, OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, switching protocols, and multicast.
- Strong written and oral communication skills and problem-solving abilities.
- Willingness to rotate on-call and work during off-hours to meet program requirements.
- Ability to travel up to 10%
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience supporting the NMCI network.
- Prior work experience with DoD programs.
- Network Automation (IaC, Ansible, Python, etc.)
- Arista experience
