Salary: £33,701 per year plus fantastic benefits

Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7am - 4pm

Are you ready to take your butchery skills to the next level? Due to our exciting growth, we’re looking for a passionate Butcher to join our dedicated team at the Carver and Co Depot, part of Sysco GB in Wigan. Here, we pride ourselves on offering exclusive cuts of British and Irish beef, all expertly butchered, prepared, aged, stored, and packed on-site.

As our new Butcher, you’ll be an integral part of a small, skilled team, supporting a variety of tasks across our production operation. Here’s what you can expect:

• Prepare a range of meat products, including prime steak cuts, chops, and roast joints.
• Perform boning, cutting, and trimming to meet customer specifications.
• Maintain high standards of health and safety, food safety, and HACCP compliance.
• Support the training of our Butchery Operatives in basic meat trimming and preparation skills.
• Utilize machinery to prepare meat for customer orders, ensuring quality and consistency.
• Pick, pack, label, and store meat products efficiently.
• Complete necessary documentation, including recording product temperatures and basic HACCP paperwork.

This role is active and requires you to be on your feet for extended periods in a chilled environment. You’ll also engage in manual handling, including bending and lifting to manage supplies and finished products.

Ideally, you’ll be an experienced Butcher with the ability to trim and portion various whole primal joints. A track record of monitoring and achieving correct portion control for high-end cuts, such as centre cut fillet steaks, is essential. However, if you’re a chef with a keen interest in the food industry, we’re open to providing training in basic knife skills and butchery machinery.
