Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Mortgage Loan Originator to join our financial services team. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in guiding clients through the mortgage loan process, from application to approval, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards. This position offers an opportunity to utilize your expertise in loan origination, customer service, and financial analysis to help clients achieve their homeownership goals. The Mortgage Loan Originator will work closely with underwriters, processors, and clients to facilitate smooth and efficient loan transactions while adhering to Fair Housing regulations and FNMA guidelines.

Please note that this is a commission-based position. The annual figure of $60,000 reflects earnings at the lower end of expected production.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new client relationships through proactive financial sales and networking efforts.
  • Assist clients in completing loan applications, providing clear explanations of loan options, and negotiating terms that meet their needs.
  • Analyze credit reports, income statements, and financial documents using FNMA standards and mortgage servicing guidelines.
  • Prepare and submit accurate loan packages utilizing financial software such as Quicken or other banking tools.
  • Ensure compliance with TILA, Fair Housing regulations, and other federal and state lending laws throughout the loan process.
  • Coordinate with underwriters, escrow officers, and other stakeholders to facilitate timely loan approval and closing.
  • Conduct credit analysis and evaluate borrower qualifications based on basic math skills, 10 key typing proficiency, and accounting software familiarity.
  • Maintain detailed records of customer interactions and loan documentation using mortgage origination systems.
  • Stay informed about current market trends, mortgage products, and regulatory changes affecting loan processing and underwriting.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in mortgage origination or related financial sales roles; prior loan officer experience is preferred.
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly to clients.
  • Knowledge of FNMA guidelines, TILA regulations, Fair Housing laws, and mortgage servicing procedures.
  • Proficiency with mortgage software such as Quicken, financial software applications, and accounting tools.
  • Excellent customer service skills with a focus on building trust and rapport with clients.
  • Ability to perform credit analysis, basic math calculations, and review contracts accurately.
  • Familiarity with escrow processes, loan processing procedures, underwriting standards, and banking operations.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Valid licensing or certification as required by state or federal regulations is a plus but not mandatory for internship positions.
