SCHEDULE: Full Time / Hybrid (at least 3 days in office)
SALARY RANGE: $95,000 - $125,000

SUMMARY
Tekscan is seeking a Materials Process Manager (Chemist) to lead the daily operations of our chemistry lab and ensure seamless integration between R&D and Production. This role is responsible for managing compounding processes, scaling up materials for sensor production, and implementing structured workflows that align with business priorities. The Lab Manager will supervise and mentor the Ink Technician, ensuring accurate execution of ink compounding, inventory management, and testing activities.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical foundation in chemistry or chemical engineering (BS/MS level), hands-on experience with materials processing, and solid chemical knowledge—including inorganic and organic/polymer synthesis, functional group recognition, and basic reaction mechanisms. This individual must also demonstrate the ability to drive cross-functional collaboration.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lab Operations & Safety
- Oversee daily lab activities, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and proper handling of chemicals and materials.
- Maintain inventory of raw materials, chemicals, and lab equipment.
Compounding & Scale-Up
- Manage compounding processes for inks and materials, ensuring consistency and quality from small-scale R&D batches to pilot and production-scale runs.
- Troubleshoot material and process issues in collaboration with R&D and Production teams.
Workflow Coordination
- Develop and maintain a clear schedule for material readiness aligned with sensor production needs.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the Chemistry Lab and Sensor Production to ensure structured prioritization.
Testing & Data Oversight
- Implement and manage new sensor testing methods in coordination with engineering and production teams.
- Ensure proper data collection, review, and alignment between compounding processes and sensor calibration results.
Team Leadership
- Supervise and mentor the Ink Technician, providing guidance on:
- Ink compounding and manufacturing processes.
- Inventory management and raw material ordering.
- Conducting routine and non-routine tests, quality control, and calibration.
- Maintaining clean, safe, and organized work areas.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with Operations Optimization, Print Shop, and Core Engineering teams to support innovation and production goals.
- Provide technical input for equipment selection and process improvements.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to optimize lab workflows, reduce waste, and improve turnaround times.
- Support training and development of lab technicians.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: BS or MS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
- Experience: 2–5 years in a lab or production environment, preferably with compounding or materials processing experience.
SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
· Strong understanding of chemical safety and handling.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities and communicate effectively across departments.
· Hands-on experience with lab equipment and pilot-scale processes.
· Familiarity with data analysis and quality control methods.
· Leadership and team management skills.
· Experience in ink or coating compounding.
· Synthetic experience with small molecules and reactive polymers
· Knowledge of sensor calibration and testing processes.
· Ability to lead process implementation and drive cross-functional collaboration.

The estimated salary range for this position is $95,000–$125,000 annually, representing the company's good-faith and reasonable estimate of potential compensation at the time of posting. The final offer will be based on factors such as experience, skills, responsibilities, and current market conditions.
