The MES Engineer is responsible for the design, configuration, implementation, and support of Manufacturing Execution Systems that connect enterprise systems with shop floor operations. This role focuses on improving manufacturing visibility, data integrity, and process control by delivering reliable, scalable MES solutions that support production, quality, and compliance objectives.

The MES Engineer works closely with operations, automation, IT, quality, and business stakeholders to translate manufacturing requirements into effective digital manufacturing solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, implement, and support MES applications across manufacturing operations
  • Gather and document manufacturing and business requirements from production, quality, and engineering teams
  • Translate user requirements into functional specifications, workflows, and system configurations
  • Integrate MES platforms with automation systems (PLCs, SCADA), enterprise systems (ERP), and data historians
  • Configure production models, recipes, workflows, electronic batch records, and data collection strategies
  • Support system testing, validation, and deployment activities, including user acceptance testing
  • Troubleshoot MES applications and resolve production issues in a timely manner
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on manufacturing performance, data accuracy, and system reliability
  • Support compliance efforts in regulated manufacturing environments where applicable
  • Provide user training, documentation, and post-implementation support

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing operations and production workflows
  • Experience working with MES concepts such as work orders, routing, genealogy, traceability, and performance metrics
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including operations, IT, quality, and automation
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and problem-solving skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field
  • Experience implementing or supporting MES platforms in an industrial manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with integration between MES, PLC/SCADA systems, and ERP platforms
  • Experience with database systems and structured data (SQL or similar)
  • Exposure to regulated manufacturing environments (pharmaceutical, biotech, medical devices, or food & beverage) is a plus
  • Knowledge of validation practices, electronic records, and data integrity requirements is beneficial
