We are a highly successful, independent contracting company proudly serving FedEx Ground in the Burlington, WA area. We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Senior Fleet Mechanic / Lead Fleet Technician to maintain, diagnose, and repair our fleet of step vans and box trucks.

This role is ideal for a seasoned mechanic who enjoys working independently, taking ownership of fleet reliability, and keeping vehicles safe, compliant, and road-ready in a fast-paced delivery operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on step vans and box trucks
  • Service and repair:
  • Braking systems, tires, suspension, and steering
  • Electrical and lighting systems
  • Cooling, fuel, and exhaust systems
  • Basic engine and drivetrain components
  • Conduct DOT-compliant inspections and ensure all vehicles meet FedEx Ground safety standards
  • Address and repair defects reported from driver pre-trip and post-trip inspections
  • Respond to roadside breakdowns and urgent maintenance issues as needed
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, service logs, and compliance documentation
  • Coordinate and oversee outside vendor repairs when required
  • Assist with onboarding new vehicles, upfitting, and preparing trucks for FedEx and DOT inspections
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment
  • Provide guidance or informal leadership to drivers or junior technicians regarding vehicle safety and reporting issues

Requirements (Senior-Level)

  • 3–5+ years of hands-on mechanical experience, preferably with:
  • Step vans
  • Box trucks
  • Light-to-medium-duty commercial vehicles
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Solid understanding of DOT regulations and inspection requirements
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Valid driver's license (CDL a plus, not required)
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screen
  • DOT inspection certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs
  • Able to stand, bend, kneel, crawl, and work under vehicles for extended periods
  • Comfortable working in a shop environment and outdoors in all typical Skagit County weather conditions

Schedule & Availability

  • Flexible schedule required
  • Early mornings, evenings, weekends, and on-call availability as needed
  • Fleet operates 7 days a week — vehicle readiness is critical to daily operations
