Veterinary Patient Assistant

About Us: Animal Cancer Care Clinic (ACCC) is dedicated exclusively to the diagnosis and treatment of cancer in animals. With eight locations across Florida, our full-service wellness center in Fort Lauderdale provides comprehensive care, including medical oncology, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, surgical oncology, and clinical trials.

Job Summary:
Animal Cancer Care Clinic Orlando is seeking a compassionate and reliable full time Veterinary Patient Assistant to support our Surgery service and daytime patient admissions. Travel to our Melbourne clinic may be necessary one day per week. This role is vital to ensuring safe patient handling, smooth anesthesia recovery, and excellent inpatient care. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced medical environment and is passionate about patient comfort and safety.

Key Responsibilities for a Veterinary Patient Assistant:

  • Monitor and care for patients recovering from sedation or anesthesia
  • Provide comfort, positioning, warming, and post-procedure TLC
  • Assist veterinary nurses and doctors with patient care as directed
  • Safely handle and transport dogs and cats using low-stress techniques
  • Care for day-admission and hospitalized patients (feeding, walking, monitoring)
  • Maintain clean, organized kennels and recovery areas (laundry and sanitation included)
  • Observe and report changes in patient condition promptly
  • Restock supplies and report equipment or safety concerns
  • Participate in daily team huddles and support efficient surgical workflow

Required Qualifications for a Veterinary Patient Assistant:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a small animal hospital, including post-operative care
  • Comfortable handling dogs and cats of various sizes and temperaments
  • Ability to stay calm, attentive, and organized in a busy clinical setting

Preferred Qualifications for a Veterinary Patient Assistant:

  • Experience with anesthesia recovery or post-operative patient monitoring
