The Role of the Executive Director

As the North Riverside Community Development Corporation (NRCDC) grows and continues to invest in our community, we seek to add an Executive Director (ED) to strengthen our operational foundation, make our work more resilient and sustainable over time, and to realize a greater impact with more of our neighbors. This is a position with the potential for growth.

Pursues Revenue and Funding Opportunities

  • Coordinates funding plans with the Treasurer and Board of Directors
  • Seeks grants appropriate to the work of the NRCDC, writes applications, and reports on the implementation of awarded grants

Strengthens the Operational Foundation

  • Creates annual budgets with the Treasurer, and provides timely and transparent reporting on the organization finances

Develop Relationships with Neighbors and Allies

  • Attends meetings as needed to represent the NRCDC with funders, COJ, coalitions, etc.

Strategy

  • Supports the strategic direction developed by the Board of Directors and contribute to future planning efforts
  • Participates with the board committee on developing plans to open a Community Center
  • Researches opportunities on how NRCDC can gain the capacity to become more fully involved with affordable housing programs

Competencies

The ED will bring a flexible range of competencies including, but not limited to the following.

  • A strong interest in the future success of North Riverside
  • A heart for people, based in compassion and understanding, that contributes to building trust and relationships with people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to know when best to use text, phone, email, or written formats
  • Ability to work well with others in a cooperative and non-competitive way
  • Highly organized in maintaining both digital and hard-copy records

Experience and Education Experience

  • Personal experience with North Riverside such, as but not limited to family, work, faith, or school
  • 2+ years in grant writing and/or fund development
  • Experience working in a nonprofit, with nonprofit administration preferred
  • Experience with affordable housing preferred

Education

  • An associate or bachelor's degree in business administration, non-profit management, social work, or another related field preferred, but not required
