In the position of Payroll Assistant, your primary responsibility will be to ensure the payroll processing for the assigned business units. More precisely, you will have to :
  • Perform all operational and administrative tasks required for payroll processing;
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, construction collective agreements, and the employee handbook;
  • Enter and validate data, ensuring accuracy of calculations related to personnel movements (promotions, transfers, assignments, terminations, leaves);
  • Monitor and process payroll-related workplace accident files;
  • Prepare and submit tax filings and reports to government authorities and regulatory bodies;
  • Generate and verify Records of Employment;
  • Reconcile monthly reports and process remittances (vacation pay, group insurance, RRSP contributions);
  • Provide guidance to employees and managers on payroll-related inquiries;
  • Collaborate with the Payroll Supervisor to optimize work methods and procedures;
  • Create employee profiles upon hiring;
  • Update employee records to reflect changes or modifications;
  • Ensure compliance and accuracy of benefit deductions (group insurance and RRSP), including tracking changes;
  • Work closely with the HR team on various payroll-related mandates;
  • Perform any other related duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Hold a college diploma in Accounting, a college diploma in Administration, or any other relevant education ;
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar position ;
  • Proficiency in the payroll cycle ;
  • Knowledge of payroll and union deductions in the construction industry ;.
  • Familiarity with Avantage, Maestro, and Prextra software (an asset) ;
  • Understanding of the construction collective agreement (an asset) ;
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office Suite ;
  • Demonstrate rigor, integrity, and autonomy ;
  • Perform tasks and responsibilities efficiently with a strong commitment to excellence ;
  • Show strong organizational skills ;
  • Manage diligently priorities ;
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills ;
  • Works collaboratively and effectively within a team environment.
