Department mission

The mission of the Culture, Sports, Leisure and Community Development Department is to improve quality of life by promoting accessibility, participation and integration of all citizens through excellent community, cultural, sports and recreational facilities, activities and services.

Responsibilities and goals associated with the position

Reporting to the Manager – Programs and Logistics, the jobholder assists in overseeing the activities in his or her unit,

ensuring compliance with the standards and a high-quality service offer for the population. The job holder manages human resources, organizes training and special events, assists with the planning of activities and employee schedules and supports employees and clients on pool deck.

The jobholder will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Assist with planning, organizing, directing and monitoring the human resources under his or her responsibility (recruitment, training, evaluation, scheduling, etc.);
  • Prepare, organize and lead staff trainings and special events;
  • Assist the manager in preparing programming and scheduling;
  • Evaluate the quality of the courses and programs offered to citizens;
  • Ensure the appropriate use of the rooms and equipment based on established schedules;
  • Monitor the building and the activities within to ensure compliance with laws and norms, and report any maintenance or cleanliness issues to the necessary parties;
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all facility clientele;
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of standards, policies, regulations and working methods;
  • Prepare reports including consolidating data, writing opinions and making recommendations with the goal of improving the processes related to his or her activities;
  • Participate in various committees related to his or her activity sector;
  • Perform any other related tasks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sports and Recreation, Management or any other related field;
  • Minimum two (2) years of relevant experience in a leadership position or any other combination of education and experience considered equivalent;
  • The position requires good knowledge of French and English to be able to effectively participate in conversations and in various meetings or working committees and to write quality texts and reports in French or English;
  • Experience in management and staff supervision;
  • Experience in aquatics is considered an asset.
  • National lifeguard, lifesaving instructor and Olympic Way Instructor Trainer certifications are considered an asset;
  • Additional competencies sought: thoroughness, initiative, client-oriented (internal and external), good interpersonal relations, ability to work in a team, ability to plan, organize and control, problem-solving skills, adaptability and team management skills.

Work schedule 35 hours per week

Regular Season (After Labor Day until mid June)

  • Tuesday 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday to Friday 11:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Summer Season (Mid-June to Labor Day)

  • From Tuesday to Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
  • Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
