Lead Mechanical Engineer – Product Assurance

Salary: Circa £55,000

As a Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-level engineering assurance for our cutting-edge BAE Systems Maritime Submarines products. Here’s what you’ll be doing:

• Delivering engineering assurance across major Submarine Enterprise programmes, ensuring product integrity.
• Planning and prioritising assurance activities with a risk-based approach, optimising resources effectively.
• Leading key assurance reviews, validating design decisions, technical bids, and engineering evidence.
• Ensuring products are safe, compliant, cost-effective, and fully integrated.
• Providing independent oversight to design and technical reviews, offering objective judgement.
• Collaborating across engineering and business teams to influence outcomes and enhance product quality.
• Acting as an independent voice in safety assurance, providing impartial technical support.

We’re looking for someone with a blend of education and hands-on experience:

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred, but strong experience in design or commissioning is equally valued.
• Hands-on experience with event reporting systems, confidently identifying issues and driving resolutions.
• Proven capability in design proving, from verification to successful commissioning.
• Strong knowledge of design reviews, audits, and managing complex technical challenges.
• A solid Mechanical Engineering background with practical experience in design, testing, and commissioning.
