The Radiologic Technologist works under the direct supervision of the Director of Radiology, the off-site Radiologists, and the administration in accordance with the authorized scope of practice. The technologist performs a variety of Xray and CT procedures using ionizing radiation for diagnostic purposes. This position uses ingenuity, initiative, and independent judgement to perform high quality scans.

The following is a list of job essentials:

· Support and practice the mission and philosophy of RVMC.

· Function within the core competencies and minimum qualifications set forth by RVMC.

· Work effectively with the Medical Staff and Nursing staff.

· Ensures proper patient identification, order verification, and prepares the patient for the exam.

· Performs exams per department protocol

· Uses ALARA program and follows proper radiation safety protocols

· Demonstrates ability to critique own images.

· Is sensitive to the patients' needs throughout the procedure. Sufficiently explains to the patient and family the procedure in order to facilitate cooperation and alleviate patient anxiety. Addresses any patient concerns.

· Performs radiologic exams that produce quality images and ensure patient and staff safety. Accomplishes this by following proper protocols, correct patient positioning, appropriate and effective use of equipment, and adherence to radiation protection and guidelines.

· Recognizes emergent patient situations and responds quickly and appropriately.

· Coordinates patient care and communicates pertinent information to other patient care providers following procedure.

· Maintains a clean, neat, and safe environment for patients and staff. Ensures that supplies and equipment are stored in an organized and efficient manner.

· As appropriate, assists other Radiology Techs in exam protocols, procedures, positioning, and equipment.

· Completes studies within acceptable time limitations per department expectations without compromising patient care or the quality of the examination.

· Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of protocols relating to contrast administration (for CT).

· Practices appropriate infection control and sterile techniques.

· Understands and operates all X-ray and CT imaging equipment and related information systems appropriately to ensure that quality images are produced. Must be able to view,
