Veterinary Assistant

Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our veterinary team. The ideal candidate will assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing high-quality animal care, ensuring a smooth operation within our clinic. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about animal health and welfare, with experience in animal handling, pet care, and veterinary procedures. Prior experience in veterinary clinics, animal husbandry, or related fields is highly valued.

Duties

• Assist with animal restraint during examinations and procedures to ensure safety for both animals and staff
• Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinarians or veterinary technicians
• Prepare animals for surgery, including cleaning, shaving, and aseptic techniques
• Monitor animal vital signs and recovery post-procedure or surgery
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kennels, examination rooms, and surgical areas
• Support front desk operations including appointment scheduling and client communication
• Handle laboratory tasks such as sample collection, processing, and basic testing
• Assist with pet care activities including feeding, bathing, and exercise routines
• Manage animal intake and discharge procedures efficiently and compassionately
• Support with specialized animal handling such as dog handling, equine care, or other species as needed

Skills

• Proven kennel experience and animal husbandry skills
• Strong knowledge of veterinary terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pet care practices
• Experience with animal restraint techniques across various species including dogs and horses (equine experience preferred)
• Ability to administer medications accurately and perform laboratory procedures
• Familiarity with veterinary critical care protocols and aseptic techniques
• Excellent animal handling skills with a focus on safety and comfort for animals of all temperaments
• Front desk skills including client communication, appointment scheduling, and record keeping
• Knowledge of veterinary clinic operations including laboratory work, medication administration, and pet care routines
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail

Pay: From $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
