À propos

Qualls Engineering is seeking a senior structural engineer (7+ years of experience) to lead projects, build client relationships, and contribute meaningfully to the firm's long-term growth and direction.

This role combines technical leadership with business awareness and client engagement. The Senior Structural Engineer leads commercial and residential projects from concept through construction, collaborates closely with architects, contractors, building officials, mentors staff, and helps advance office standards—connecting day-to-day project execution with broader strategic and operational goals. This position is well suited for an experienced engineer seeking greater influence, visibility, and a long-term leadership trajectory than is typically available in larger organizations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead structural projects from concept through construction
, applying sound engineering judgment, constructability awareness, and a high standard of quality and client service.
  • Serve as a trusted technical and strategic partner to clients
, helping shape solutions, manage expectations, and build long-term relationships that support repeat work and firm continuity.
  • Collaborate closely with architects, builders, and building officials
, aligning design intent with regulatory requirements and real-world construction constraints.
  • Contribute to the firm's growth and evolution
, participating in operational, strategic, financial, and client-focused initiatives where experience and perspective meaningfully influence outcomes.
  • Uphold and advance technical standards
, participating in quality assurance and quality control while promoting practical, consistent, and well-reasoned engineering solutions.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers
, sharing knowledge, leadership, and perspective to strengthen both individual development and team capability.
  • Prepare structural calculations and construction documents
, including schematic design, design development, and permit submittals, independently and collaboratively in alignment with company standards.
  • Help evolve office standards, tools, and technical knowledge
, improving efficiency, clarity, and the overall engineering experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Strong working knowledge of California structural regulations, building codes, and construction standards across primary material types.
  • High proficiency in the design of concrete, CMU, steel, and wood structures, with confidence applying engineering judgment beyond prescriptive solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, taking responsibility for quality, schedules, and financial performance.
  • Self-directed and accountable, with the ability to plan and manage work independently in an environment built on trust and professional judgment.
  • Proven experience leading projects end-to-end—from concept through construction—while coordinating clients, consultants, and internal teams.
  • Collaborative by nature, contributing positively to team culture and effective working relationships.
  • Motivated to continue learning, stay current with evolving industry practices, and help advance office standards.

Required Experience & Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Structural or Civil Engineering (structural emphasis)
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in California
  • Registered Structural Engineer (S.E.) in California preferred, or ability to obtain S.E.
  • Minimum 7 years of post-graduation experience at a structural engineering firm
