Job Summary
Ballymore Safety Products is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Coatesville engineering team and support the design, development, and release of industrial safety and material-handling products. This role requires a strong mix of analytical design, hands-on problem solving, and cross-functional execution. The ideal candidate is comfortable owning multiple projects simultaneously, anticipating manufacturing and safety requirements, and driving designs from concept through production.
Responsibilities
Product & Mechanical Design
- Perform mechanical design and analysis, including static calculations, FEA, and machine design.
- Develop designs that balance performance, manufacturability, cost, and safety.
- Anticipate implicit design requirements and downstream impacts early in the design process.
Engineering Execution
- Manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining high output and quality.
- Drive projects from concept through design release and into production.
- Support rapid prototyping, fabrication, testing, and troubleshooting.
CAD, BOM, and Documentation
- Create accurate 3D models, drawings, and BOMs using SolidWorks.
- Apply tolerancing, GD&T, and drawing standards appropriate for manufacturing.
- Maintain accuracy in PDM and MRP systems to support production and procurement.
Manufacturing & Shop Support
- Collaborate closely with manufacturing, fabrication, and assembly teams.
- Support diagnosis of production issues and implement effective corrective actions.
- Identify and address potential pinch points, cut hazards, and safety concerns early in the design.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Communicate effectively with engineering peers, manufacturing, procurement, and management.
- Proactively raise risks, schedule conflicts, or prioritization concerns.
- Work with leadership to align workload and project priorities.
- Develop designs that balance performance, manufacturability, cost, and safety.
- Anticipate implicit design requirements and downstream impacts early in the design process.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Strong mechanical design fundamentals (statics, machine design).
- Experience with SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software.
- Experience creating production-ready drawings and BOMs.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred
- Experience with FEA and structural analysis.
- Hands-on experience with prototyping, fabrication, or troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and design for manufacturing (DFM).
Key Attributes We're Looking For
- High Output: Able to juggle multiple projects without sacrificing quality.
- Self-Directed: Makes sound engineering decisions with minimal supervision.
- Proactive: Anticipates problems and raises them early.
- Collaborative: Works effectively with manufacturing and procurement as partners.
- Detail-Oriented: Produces accurate, production-ready designs.
- Resilient: Adapts to changing priorities without losing momentum.
Why Join Us
