Role Summary

We are seeking a licensed Professional Engineer (PEng/PE) with proven experience in distribution protection engineering, with a strong focus on fuse coordination, sectionalization, and reliability improvement studies for utility distribution networks in the state of Georgia. The ideal candidate will have direct utility experience and hands-on proficiency with distribution modeling platforms such as EasyPower, CYME, ASPEN, or similar tools.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed
    fuse coordination studies
for overhead and underground distribution feeders.
  • Conduct
    sectionalization studies
to enhance system reliability, reduce outage impacts, and optimize protective device placement.
  • Review, analyze, and develop
    protection schemes
involving fuses, reclosers, sectionalizers, and breakers.
  • Calculate
    fault currents
, evaluate protective device performance, and verify
    time-current coordination (TCC)
     curves.
  • Develop
    feeder improvement plans
aimed at enhancing reliability indices (SAIDI/SAIFI/CEMI).
  • Prepare recommendations for
    fuse sizing
, device relocation, protective device upgrades, and system reinforcement.
  • Apply
    Georgia utility protection standards
, ensuring compliance with NESC, IEEE, and local utility guidelines.
  • Produce engineering deliverables including
coordination plots, settings tables, engineering reports
    , and documentation packages.
  • Collaborate with
utility planning, operations, and field engineering teams
     to support project execution.

Qualifications

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE / P.Eng)
     — Georgia PE preferred; eligibility for comity is acceptable.
  • 5+ years
of experience in distribution protection, planning, or reliability engineering.
  • Proven expertise in
    fuse coordination, sectionalization, fault studies
    , and protection device analysis.
  • Proficiency in modeling tools such as
    EasyPower
(preferred), CYME, ASPEN OneLiner, or DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
  • Strong understanding of
    utility protection standards
, NESC, IEEE standards, and Georgia-specific utility practices.
  • Excellent analytical abilities, communication skills, and technical documentation experience.

Preferred Experience

  • Previous work with
    Georgia utilities
(Georgia Power, EMCs, or similar organizations).
  • Experience with
    recloser programming
     (SEL, Eaton Cooper).
  • Knowledge of
    DER impact assessments
, feeder modernization, and grid reliability improvement projects.
