Job description:
Role Summary
We are seeking a licensed Professional Engineer (PEng/PE) with proven experience in distribution protection engineering, with a strong focus on fuse coordination, sectionalization, and reliability improvement studies for utility distribution networks in the state of Georgia. The ideal candidate will have direct utility experience and hands-on proficiency with distribution modeling platforms such as EasyPower, CYME, ASPEN, or similar tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform detailed
fuse coordination studies
for overhead and underground distribution feeders. - Conduct
sectionalization studies
to enhance system reliability, reduce outage impacts, and optimize protective device placement. - Review, analyze, and develop
protection schemes
involving fuses, reclosers, sectionalizers, and breakers. - Calculate
fault currents
, evaluate protective device performance, and verify
time-current coordination (TCC)
curves. - Develop
feeder improvement plans
aimed at enhancing reliability indices (SAIDI/SAIFI/CEMI). - Prepare recommendations for
fuse sizing
, device relocation, protective device upgrades, and system reinforcement. - Apply
Georgia utility protection standards
, ensuring compliance with NESC, IEEE, and local utility guidelines. - Produce engineering deliverables including
coordination plots, settings tables, engineering reports
, and documentation packages. - Collaborate with
utility planning, operations, and field engineering teams
to support project execution.
Qualifications
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE / P.Eng)
— Georgia PE preferred; eligibility for comity is acceptable. - 5+ years
of experience in distribution protection, planning, or reliability engineering. - Proven expertise in
fuse coordination, sectionalization, fault studies
, and protection device analysis. - Proficiency in modeling tools such as
EasyPower
(preferred), CYME, ASPEN OneLiner, or DIgSILENT PowerFactory. - Strong understanding of
utility protection standards
, NESC, IEEE standards, and Georgia-specific utility practices. - Excellent analytical abilities, communication skills, and technical documentation experience.
Preferred Experience
- Previous work with
Georgia utilities
(Georgia Power, EMCs, or similar organizations). - Experience with
recloser programming
(SEL, Eaton Cooper). - Knowledge of
DER impact assessments
, feeder modernization, and grid reliability improvement projects.

Pay:
$66,306.14-$79,852.55 per year
