Platform Systems Architect

About the Opportunity:

The organization is a global leader in branded promotional merchandise, uniform programs, and recognition and incentive solutions. The Platform Systems Architect is a senior leadership role responsible for designing and stewarding the future platform capable of translating creative, human-driven intent into scalable, auditable, and automated execution. This role partners with Product, Operations, Sales, Finance, and Technology leaders to architect systems that support exception-heavy workflows, complex decision logic, and evolving business models.

Responsibilities:

• Design and evolve the enterprise platform architecture with clear separation across sales enablement, order orchestration and exception management, and financial execution systems

• Define and defend architectural boundaries to prevent operational complexity from affecting downstream systems

• Partner with the CPTO to translate business strategy into architectural bets and platform evolution roadmaps

• Architect systems optimized for variability, ambiguity, and exception density, not just automation of standard processes

• Identify recurring human decisions and failure modes across sales, operations, and finance and design them into governable platform capabilities

• Ensure decision logic and exception handling are centralized in control layers rather than fragmented

• Design the platform to incorporate AI-assisted reasoning, decision support, and automation safely and effectively

• Establish architectural patterns for human-in-the-loop decisioning, AI-assisted exception triage, decision traceability, auditability, and operational control

• Partner with Product, Data, and Engineering to ensure orchestration layers serve as future-ready control planes for agentic and AI-assisted workflows

• Define enterprise architecture principles balancing flexibility, speed, cost, and operational control

• Advise executive leadership on platform tradeoffs, risk, and scalability

• Guide architectural decision-making to reduce redundancy, technical debt, and unintended costs

• Collaborate with Product, Operations, and Finance leaders to align on execution realities, exception patterns, controls, and compliance

• Mentor senior engineers, architects, and product leaders in platform-level thinking and enterprise design

Requirements:

• 12+ years designing and evolving complex enterprise or platform systems

• Experience architecting exception-heavy, operationally complex environments

• Ability to translate human workflows and judgment into scalable systems

• Deep experience with orchestration layers, workflow engines, rules engines, or similar control-plane architectures

• Strong executive communication skills with the ability to operate in ambiguity and influence across functions

Preferred Experience:

• Experience designing or stewarding AI-enabled platforms with familiarity in:

• Cloud-based large language model platforms (e.g., AWS Bedrock or equivalent)

• Model Context Protocols or similar orchestration frameworks

• Human-in-the-loop and agent-assisted system patterns

• Background in industries with complex fulfillment, customization, or regulatory constraints

• Prior experience partnering closely with Product and Operations leadership

• Formal certifications are secondary to proven architectural judgment and platform impact
