Description of Work

**This is an anticipated vacancy. NC Emergency Management expects to fill this position in January 2026.**

About this Position:

The primary duty of the Multi-Hazards Field Planner (MHFP) is to provide expertise and guidance to various stakeholders on emergency management and hazard planning.

Expertise includes:

  • Assistance with grants
  • Advising the Domestic Preparedness Region Executive Directors on grants and execution
  • Participation in Local Emergency Planning Committees, emergency operations planning, exercise and training funding and availability
  • Hazard mitigation assistance
  • Disaster recovery and debris management assistance for local governments

The selected candidate will be expected to assist with Emergency Management Performance Grant planning and compliance, and Radiological Emergency Preparedness (REP) support to local emergency managers.

If selected, the candidate will be responsible for participating in other local and state preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation activities as necessary.

About the Central Branch Office:

The mission of the Central Branch Office is to assist local governments within the Central Branch with preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation activities on a day-to-day basis and during emergencies, incidents, and events.

Recruitment Range: $55,823 - $97,689

The Minimum Education and Experience (E&E) is REQUIRED to qualify for this position. Management Preferences, including Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs), are not required but may be used to determine the pool of most qualified applicants. Managers may also choose to interview/select applicants who demonstrate Management Preferences.

Management Preferences:

  • Working knowledge of emergency management principles and/or planning
  • Experience in interpreting governmental legislation
  • Working knowledge of local and/or state government emergency services procedures
  • Experience in developing and/or delivering grant programs
  • Working knowledge of maintaining effective working relationships with program stakeholders

Military Experience
