Overview
We are seeking a Head of QA Engineering to lead and build our QA Engineering department within a dynamic consultancy. This role blends technical mastery in modern automation, shift-left thinking and leadership to drive robust, automated testing solutions for a diverse range of clients. The ideal candidate will align quality strategy with business outcomes, ensuring that software is functional, resilient and scalable. You will play a leading role in building, developing and realising a continued growth strategy for our QA offering, including the execution of go-to-market testing propositions and collaborating with the software, sales and bid teams to ensure our QA approach differentiates us in winning new revenue. About You Professional knowledge and experience Essential: Significant experience in QA engineering, with a proven track record in a leadership role. Essential: Deep, hands-on experience across multiple testing frameworks, with the ability to switch approaches pragmatically (e.g. Cypress, Playwright, Selenium). Essential: Strong understanding of modern software engineering practices, including shift-left testing and embedding quality throughout the SDLC. Desirable: Experience working in a consultancy environment, demonstrating adaptability across clients, teams, and delivery contexts. Desirable: Knowledge or practical experience of applying AI-assisted tooling within the QA lifecycle. Technical skills Expert-level understanding of testing and quality automation, including when and where automation adds the most value. Experience setting QA strategy and standards across multiple teams or products Ability to influence engineering and product leaders on quality, risk, and release readiness Strong experience integrating testing into CI/CD pipelines, supporting fast, reliable, and repeatable releases. Proficiency across testing frameworks, approaches, and languages, such as Playwright (JavaScript/TypeScript), BDD/Cucumber, Selenium (Java, Python). Expertise in full-stack testing, covering API, regression, performance, and end-to-end automated testing strategies. Ability to apply and adapt QA strategy and standards pragmatically, balancing risk, coverage, and delivery speed across teams. Behaviours Commitment to professional integrity and ethical standards. Lead and build our internal QA function ready to assure clients technical delivery. Manage client relationships, ensuring their needs are met, delivery quality risks are mitigated and expectations exceeded. Define, build and oversee the QA methodology, ensuring best practice is adhered to and adoption of modern testing techniques. Be accountable for maintaining high standards of software quality across all engagements through QA best practices, supported by clear quality metrics and foster a culture of continuous improvement and learning within the team and adopting a right tool for the job multi-framework approach.evidence-based reporting. Provide thought leadership, strategy, and methodology externally to clients and prospects, through blogs and events. Contribute subject matter expertise to bid and growth contributions, meeting with clients and working with bids writers to ensure our success. Define and continually evolve the client facing propositions delivered by your function, communicating the benefit and opportunity to everyone internally. Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure cohesive business operations. Maximise financial health by ensuring the maximum utilisation of teams in support of client outcomes. Stay aware of industry trends and advancements in QA engineering, including how to safely leverage AI in our testing cycles. About Us
