À propos
World Services LLC, an IT engineering, solutions, and management consulting firm, is seeking a Senior Java Developer to support a federal agency on an enterprise-wide digital transformation initiative.
This is a Java-first, hands-on engineering role where the individual will actively create and maintain production code. The successful candidate will spend the majority of their time designing, writing, testing, and deploying Java/Spring Boot services, contributing directly to a monorepo codebase and supporting a form generation capability. The role includes technical leadership and solution-level architectural contribution to strengthen delivery and implementation.
You will work alongside experienced teams in a stable, mission-driven environment building secure, resilient systems that support critical programs.
*Key Responsibilities*
*Hands-On Java Development *
* Design, implement, test, and maintain Java/Spring Boot microservices and supporting libraries within a monorepo.
* Build and enhance backend services supporting form generation, including metadata-driven configuration, validation, persistence, and workflow orchestration.
* Develop secure, well-structured REST APIs and service integrations; implement authentication/authorization patterns aligned to least-privilege principles.
* Modernize and refactor existing Java services to improve maintainability, modularity, and performance while reducing technical debt.
* Apply strong engineering discipline: code reviews, unit/integration testing, and performance troubleshooting (including thread safety, concurrency, and resource management).
* Troubleshoot and resolve production issues across application, database, and cloud layers; identify root cause and implement durable fixes.
*Technical Leadership and Solution Architecture *
* Lead service-level design discussions and ensure architectural decisions translate into clean, testable, production-ready Java implementation.
* Mentor developers through pair programming, code reviews, and technical guidance focused on quality, scalability, and maintainability.
* Establish engineering standards for Java development (coding patterns, testing expectations, review practices, service boundaries) and ensure consistent adoption.
* Collaborate with the Program Manager and stakeholders to plan technical work, communicate trade-offs, and support federal accountability expectations.
*Cloud, Data, and DevOps Enablement*
* Implement and maintain CI/CD workflows using GitHub and Jenkins (with potential exposure to Harness), ensuring safe, repeatable deployments.
* Design and implement data persistence patterns using PostgreSQL (schema design, migrations, tuning) and DynamoDB (access patterns, data modeling).
* Support infrastructure delivery using Terraform, including best practices such as S3 backends with DynamoDB state locking, versioning, and safeguards for critical resources.
* Contribute to observability and operational readiness using CloudWatch logs/metrics and AWS X-Ray tracing as applicable.
* Support containerized deployment patterns where used (Docker/Kubernetes), including rollout strategies that minimize downtime and operational risk.
*Technical Environment*
* *Backend:* Java, Spring Boot
* *Source Control / CI/CD:* GitHub, Jenkins (possible Harness)
* *Agile Delivery:* Jira
* *Databases:* DynamoDB, PostgreSQL
* *Cloud / Infrastructure:* AWS, Terraform
* *Architecture:* Microservices, serverless integrations (as applicable), monorepo development
*Required Qualifications*
* Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
* 6+ years of professional software development experience with significant, recent hands-on Java development.
* Demonstrated success designing and delivering Spring Boot services in production environments.
* Proven ability to contribute code consistently while providing technical leadership and guiding implementation decisions.
* Experience with AWS and cloud-native service integration patterns.
* Strong experience with PostgreSQL and DynamoDB (or comparable relational + NoSQL implementations).
* Experience with CI/CD and engineering workflows using GitHub and Jenkins (Harness is a plus).
* Experience writing or supporting Terraform infrastructure-as-code.
* Ability to obtain an Elevated Public Trust clearance and meet federal suitability requirements.
* Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
*Preferred Skills*
* AWS Solutions Architect – Associate or Professional
* Experience with serverless patterns (Lambda, API Gateway) and associated performance considerations (e.g., cold-start mitigation)
* Kubernetes experience, including rollout configuration and troubleshooting (e.g., CrashLoopBackOff, networking, readiness probes)
* Experience with data pipelines and services such as Glue, Textract, Databricks
* Ruby on Rails for rapid prototyping
* Federal project delivery experience
*Why Join World Services*
* Support high-impact federal initiatives with meaningful mission outcomes.
* Work in a stable environment with experienced teams and clear delivery objectives.
* Contribute to technical direction while remaining hands-on in Java delivery.
* Professional development and certification support.
