POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Greater Waterbury YMCA, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Pilates Instructor at the Greater Waterbury YMCA leads Pilates group exercise classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that welcomes all skill and fitness levels, effectively builds community within classes, and modifies exercises as needed to meet varied health, ability, and cultural needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience teaching Pilates classes preferred.
  • Completion of Child Abuse Prevention, CPR/First Aid/AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens training within 30 days of hire.
  • Pilates certification required. National certification in group fitness instruction (e.g., ACE, NETA, AFAA, or NASM) or YMCA Group Exercise Instructor certification is required.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational Pilates classes as directed by supervisor.
  • Adjusts teaching approach when needed to support all class participants' capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with class participants and facilitates their connection with the YMCA and each other.
  • Asks and answers questions from class participants to support them in achieving their health and wellness goals.
  • Celebrates achievements of class participants related to class or personal goals, mastering of specific skills, or overall health and wellness.
  • Keeps accurate class attendance records.
  • Maintains working knowledge of wellness and fitness trends to provide relevant information and support.
  • Maintains all required certifications and provides supervisor with updated copies as needed.
  • Pursues continuing education training and learning opportunities.
  • All other duties as assigned by supervisor

  • Employee must have sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise class activities.
  • Employee must maintain personal fitness to lead classes as scheduled.
  • Employee must be able to balance maintaining body equilibrium, stoop using lower extremities, crawl, reach, push, pull, lift, talk, listen, and engage in repetitive motions with or without weights or exercise equipment.
  • Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and exert up to 50 pounds of force to move objects.
  • Employee must have close visual acuity to perform most activities.
  • Employee may be exposed to moderate to high levels of noise.
  • Employee may have moderate exposure to infections.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $ $25.00 per hour
