IMM Engineer (Injection Molding Machine Process Engineer)

The Injection Molding Machine Process Engineer is responsible for taking lead on ensuring the proactive planning and optimization of the technical equipment involved in the injection area, for achieving goals tied to the engineering changes of both series products and new products in the launch process. While being a lead on the Injection Mold Engineering projects, the IMM Engineer will also work alongside the Engineering Manager, Manufacturing Engineers, Injection Molding Technical team, and the rest of the Grammer team to accomplish these goals.

What you will be doing:

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate daily injection mold shop operations, including new mold builds, repairs, preventive maintenance, and modifications.
  • Design and develop new processes for injection molding including initial setup of equipment, first trials for design, or material changes and training of technicians and injection personnel.
  • Generate update and implement process documentations such as process flow, PFMEA, operator work instructions, technical parameters sheets, rework instructions, manufacturing procedures, sample requests process and changeover instructions,
  • Manage, plan, and report overall capacity plan of equipment on short- and long-term basis.
  • Develop, manage sourcing, commissioning, and monitoring of new equipment with periphery systems (presses, Mucell, drying system, cooling system, MES, automatization and conveying).
  • Manage design and sourcing of end of arm tools and linear robot, gentry systems or 6-axes robots for insert-molding and unloading of components.
  • Develop tools and fixtures needed for safe and quality processing (grippers, cutters, sliders, stands, conveyors, bowl feeders, blenders, and grinders).
  • Generate specifications based on requirements and initiate capital expenditure proposals to drive short- and long-term product and manufacturing improvements.
  • Identify, analyze, and solve the causes of injection mold damage to prevent reoccurrence using the problem-solving method.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in tooling, equipment and process with time study, weight reduction, SMED activities, automatization, gloss, and grain quality.
  • Participate in development of plant specific tooling standards (mechanical/integration/interface) with Regional Tool Manager and recommend technical solutions for tool integration in plant.
  • Generate Technical specification, validate and review design, mold-flow and DFMEA and coordinate injection molding simulation with Regional Tool Manager for new tools kickoff.
  • Assist cost accounting in establishing new or revised standard costs for new or existing product lines or equipment.
  • Develop, source and commissioning of WIP material storage for injected parts following the LEAN principles, capacity plan, and minimum DOH for production.
  • Store and manage tool data with every change.
  • Lead flowless launch of new product activities through active participation in FMEA, part and tool design, Kaisen and other cross-functional team events.
  • Mentor Injection technicians and tool shop technicians in resolving tooling and equipment problems using systematic methods of troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
  • Maintain clear communication with customers, project management, and supervisor on project status, risk, and deliverables, and provide technical evidence as required.
  • Create and document lessons learned.

What you will bring along:

  • 3-5 years experience in a similar manufacturing engineer, industrial engineering, or similar role, preferably in the automotive industry or a similar industry
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field
  • Excellent proven skills in organization, effective communication, and leadership skills
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Word and Excel
  • Experience in plastic forming and injection processes and technologies (Mucell, coloring, insert molding, 2K injection, graining.)
  • Experience in navigating plastic material characteristics and behavior.
  • Experience with cooling systems, drying systems and automatization.
  • Ability to read and understand technical and non-technical documents as they relate to contracts, workflow processes/diagrams - CAD drawings, machine capacities, and utilization.
  • Ability to successfully interface with customers and team members in a way that builds and maintains a positive working relationship.
