Description of Work

NCDOT is seeking a highly motivated individual for a position that offers strong potential for career advancement. This position provides a full State of North Carolina benefits, including paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance, and retirement.
The primary purpose of this unit is contract administration and engineering oversight of highway construction projects. This position performs technical work in support of higher-level technicians and engineers.
Responsibilities include providing general office and computer support, with a focus on data entry and maintenance of project records in SAP and HiCAMS. The position is responsible for processing monthly and final estimates; verifying calculations; resolving discrepancies in pay records and material quantities; researching project documentation; processing material prepayments; tracking DBE participation; assisting with project meetings; and monitoring Technician Certifications to ensure they remain current.
The employee must maintain effective communication with technicians, engineers, contractors, and the public, conveying information in a clear, concise, professional, and persuasive manner. The position requires the ability to work safely outdoors and in active construction environments, with potential hazards such as heights, highway traffic, and rough terrain. Moderate physical activity is required, including walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing, as well as lifting up to 50 pounds.
A degree is not required to qualify for this position. Applicants with at least two years of related experience are highly encouraged to apply.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

 Salary Grade and Salary Range:  NC 07 $35,984.00 to $62,971.00

Management prefers applicants with the following:

  • Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision
  • Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems
  • Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of computer equipment, iPad and software
  • Experience in customer service and interacting with the general public

Additional Expectations:

Be available for night and weekend work as required and travel to any assigned project within the Division. Follow all safety policies and procedures and legally operate a motor vehicle. Night and weekend assignments may be required before, during, or after storm events or for emergency response.

Minimum Education and Experience

Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
