What You’ll Be Doing:As a Consultant Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of electrical engineering within our team. Your responsibilities will include:
- Technical Leadership: Act as the electrical Subject Matter Expert (SME), providing guidance to both internal and external stakeholders, including equipment suppliers.
- Electrical Interface Management: Oversee the electrical interface with the power system, ensuring a best-for-programme approach.
- Project Ownership: Take technical ownership of key technology readiness projects, ensuring product maturity before platform integration.
- Facility Support: Assist in delivering facility requirements for technology readiness projects, including verification and validation activities.
- Risk Analysis: Conduct technical risk analysis and develop mitigation plans for equipment delivery into the SSNA platform.
- Team Development: Support resilience planning for the SSNA Steam IDTs engineering team, ensuring succession planning for enduring SQEP capability.
- Governance: Independently author and approve technical artefacts.
Essential:
- 1st degree in Electrical Engineering (BSc (Hons) / BEng (Hons) / MEng (Hons)).
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards Chartership.
- Knowledge of integrating power electronic conversion equipment into power system designs.
- Experience in developing power system verification and validation plans.
- Understanding of the complete engineering life cycle in complex environments.
Desirable:
- 2nd specialized degree in Electrical Engineering (e.g., MSc(Eng) / MPhil(Eng) / PhD / EngD).
- Knowledge of permanent magnet rotating machines.
- Experience with Power System Analysis of AC and DC systems.
- Submarine operator experience.

As the Electrical SME within the SIDT, you will be at the forefront of delivering innovative equipment to the SSNA platform. This unique role offers the chance to influence how we tackle challenges and ensure timely equipment delivery while developing verification and validation plans.
