The Industrial Construction Expeditor / Receiving Clerk is responsible for coordinating, tracking, receiving, inspecting, and documenting materials and equipment for industrial construction projects. This role ensures materials are delivered on schedule, verified against purchase orders and drawings, properly stored, and released to construction teams in accordance with project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Expediting & Procurement Support
- Track purchase orders, fabrication status, and delivery schedules for project materials and equipment
- Communicate with vendors, suppliers, freight carriers, and procurement teams to ensure on-time delivery
- Identify potential delivery delays and escalate issues to project management
- Maintain expediting logs, delivery schedules, and material status reports
Receiving & Inspection
- Receive incoming materials, equipment, and tools at jobsite or warehouse
- Verify shipments against purchase orders, packing lists, and bills of lading
- Inspect materials for damage, quantity accuracy, and compliance with specifications
- Coordinate non-conformance reports (NCRs) for damaged, incorrect, or incomplete shipments
Documentation & Inventory Control
- Accurately document all material receipts, shortages, and damages
- Maintain material receiving reports (MRRs) and inventory records
- Label, tag, and organize materials for traceability and easy retrieval
- Coordinate with QA/QC and engineering for material approvals and releases
Material Handling & Storage
- Ensure materials are stored per manufacturer and project requirements
- Coordinate material laydown areas and warehouse organization
- Issue materials to construction crews as required and track usage
- Work with rigging and logistics teams for unloading heavy equipment
Coordination & Communication
- Interface daily with project management, field supervision, QA/QC, and warehouse personnel
- Provide material status updates to construction and scheduling teams
- Support audits and project closeout documentation
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all site safety policies and procedures
- Ensure proper handling of hazardous materials, if applicable
Maintain housekeeping standards in receiving and storage areas
Position Requirements: Qualifications
Required
High school diploma or equivalent
3+ years of experience in industrial construction, manufacturing, or heavy industrial receiving/expediting
Strong understanding of purchase orders, packing lists, and material documentation
Ability to read basic drawings, specifications, and material lists
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and inventory tracking systems
Strong organizational and communication skills
Preferred
Experience on refinery, chemical plant, power generation, or large industrial projects
Knowledge of piping, structural steel, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation materials
Forklift and/or rigging certification
Familiarity with EPC project environments
Physical Requirements
Ability to work in industrial field conditions
Lift up to 40 lbs; heavier items handled with equipment
Stand, walk, and work outdoors for extended periods
Work Environment
Construction jobsite and/or warehouse
- Exposure to weather, noise, and heavy equipment
