Description
The Bulwark isn't just a business, it's a mission. We're a fast-growing media company producing analysis and reporting in defense of liberal democracy. Our podcasts, newsletters, and videos cut through the noise to deliver sharp, independent analysis.

Inside The Bulwark, we live by a few simple rules: candor over spin, collaboration over ego, and a commitment to making each other better. We're a nimble, fast-moving team that takes our work seriously—but not ourselves.

We're looking for an
Editorial & Audience Associate
to join our team.

About the Role
As an Editorial & Audience Associate, you'll support editorial operations and audience engagement by assisting with research and content prep across platforms and handling day-to-day logistical and operational tasks that keep our coverage and shows running smoothly.

This role offers meaningful, hands-on exposure to the full lifecycle of modern media—from reporting and production to audience engagement and distribution. It's a great fit for someone smart, curious, and thoughtful who wants to learn how independent journalism comes together behind the scenes.

In this role, you will:

  • Work alongside a prolific writer and show host, as well as our broader show team, to support daily editorial and operational needs.
  • Manage communication flow—monitor messages, draft thoughtful responses, flag follow-ups, and surface priorities and time-sensitive issues.
  • Contribute to audience and community engagement by tracking and synthesizing reader and viewer/listener feedback, questions, and relevant conversations across platforms, and elevating themes that inform ongoing coverage and show planning.
  • Assist with research and content prep by compiling background, notes, links, and context for writers, producers, editors, and hosts.
  • Support publishing and formatting content across channels, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
  • Coordinate logistics, including scheduling and travel as needed.
  • Help keep projects organized by tracking follow-ups, files, and documentation.
  • Pitch in wherever needed—we value initiative, adaptability, and follow-through.

About You
You bring:

  • Sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism.
  • Curiosity about journalism, politics, and the media ecosystem, and a genuine interest in learning how the work gets done.
  • Solid writing and communication skills.
  • Strong organization and attention to detail.
  • Comfort engaging thoughtfully in public-facing and community spaces.
  • A proactive, resourceful approach and eagerness to learn.
  • The ability to take initiative while staying aligned with team priorities.
  • Experience or interest in video production, including for social media, is a plus.
  • Experience with research, online communities, or digital tools is a plus.

What We Offer
We want people at The Bulwark to thrive and provide:

  • Full employer-sponsored health plans
  • 401(k) plan with employer match
  • Generous vacation and paid time off
  • Commuter benefits and Employee Assistance Program

This role is based in Washington, DC, where our team works together in person five days a week. We're mission-driven, collaborative, and direct—and we value people who bring ideas and energy to the table.

Interested? We'd love to hear from you. Submit your resume and a brief cover note about why this role sparks your interest and how you'd contribute to our mission.
