Job Purpose
The Assistant Controller is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial reporting and accounting operations. This strategic finance position partners closely with the Corporate Controller and CFO, helping to shape the financial direction of a dynamic, growth-oriented organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily accounting operations, ensuring compliance with company policies, GAAP, and regulatory standards.
- Lead and manage monthly and quarterly financial close processes for U.S. and international business units.
- Direct financial consolidations and reporting, including adherence to lender requirements.
- Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements and reports, maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and transparency.
- Coordinate and manage external audits, acting as the primary contact for auditors and ensuring timely completion of deliverables.
- Conduct technical accounting research and lead the implementation of new accounting standards and process improvements.
- Provide accounting expertise for complex transactions and business decisions, ensuring accurate analysis and reporting.
- Build, maintain, and enhance internal controls over financial reporting to safeguard company assets.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve accounting processes, systems, and operational efficiency—including automation and technological solutions in partnership with IT and other departments.
- Develop and document comprehensive accounting policies and procedures to ensure consistency and standardization across all locations.
- Deliver strategic financial insights and recommendations to senior leadership to support business objectives.
- Lead, mentor, and develop accounting and finance team (10+), fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification required.
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles.
- In-depth knowledge of GAAP, ASC 718 (Equity Grant Accounting), ASC 842 (Lease Accounting), SOX compliance, and financial reporting standards.
- Previous experience in public accounting is advantageous.
- Strong proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and advanced Excel skills; experience with system implementation is a plus.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
- Experience in a distribution business, especially within the automotive or retail industry, is a plus.
- Experience working with a private equity-backed company is a plus.
