About The Role
We are seeking a Principal Associate, Data Scientist to join our People Tech Innovation Hub at Capital One. This role is pivotal in transforming raw data into strategic insights and innovative products that directly impact the employee experience and operational excellence. As part of this dynamic team, you will work at the forefront of technological advancements, utilizing cutting-edge machine learning and artificial intelligence tools such as Generative AI, Knowledge Graphs, and Vector Databases. Your expertise will help shape the future of work within Capital One by developing scalable, impactful data solutions that enable smarter decision-making and foster a culture of continuous innovation.

In this position, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams including data scientists, software engineers, and product managers to deliver high-quality, data-driven products that meet business needs. You will leverage a broad tech stack comprising Python, Conda, AWS, H2O, Spark, and more, to analyze large volumes of numeric and textual data. Building, validating, and deploying machine learning models will be central to your responsibilities, allowing you to uncover hidden insights and develop innovative use cases that improve employee engagement, productivity, and organizational agility.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in quantitative analysis, data science, and emerging technologies. You should have a degree in a relevant field such as Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, or Computer Science, with an expected graduation date aligned with the start of employment. Candidates with a Master's or PhD in these fields, or an MBA with a quantitative focus, are highly preferred. Proven experience in data analytics, machine learning, and working with large datasets is essential.

Additional qualifications include familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, proficiency in programming languages such as Python and Scala, and experience with SQL. Experience working with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) AI workflows, vector databases, and embedding models will be considered advantageous. The ability to interpret complex analytical results and translate them into actionable business insights is crucial for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to understand business challenges and develop data-driven solutions that enhance the employee experience and operational efficiency.
  • Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models, ensuring they are robust, scalable, and aligned with business objectives.
  • Leverage a comprehensive tech stack, including Python, Spark, AWS, and H2O, to analyze and interpret large, diverse datasets comprising numerical and textual information.
  • Translate complex data insights into clear, actionable recommendations for stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and research in data science, AI, and machine learning, continuously evaluating their applicability to business problems.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative AI workflows, including RAG-based models and vector database indexing, to push the boundaries of what is possible with data science.
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and compliance with privacy standards throughout the analytics lifecycle.
