Duties
- Assist patients with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility to promote independence and comfort.
- Monitor and record vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration rates, accurately documenting all findings in electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic or Cerner.
- Support medical teams by preparing patients for procedures, assisting with medical documentation, and ensuring adherence to aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
- Provide specialized care for patients with dementia or Alzheimer's disease in memory or behavioral health units, utilizing techniques such as dementia care strategies and Hoyer lift operation for safe transfers.
- Administer medications under supervision, perform catheter care, and assist with phlebotomy procedures when trained and authorized.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams in acute care settings such as Level I Trauma Centers or ICU units to deliver critical patient service during emergencies or complex medical situations.
- Support patient safety by adhering to HIPAA regulations, maintaining confidentiality of medical records, and ensuring accurate documentation of patient care activities.
Requirements
- Current certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) from an accredited program with valid state licensure.
- Demonstrated experience working in diverse healthcare environments including hospitals (especially ICU or emergency medicine), nursing homes, hospice or palliative care settings, or outpatient clinics.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, eClinicalWorks, or similar platforms for medical documentation.
- Knowledge of physiology, anatomy, medical terminology, and aseptic techniques essential for delivering safe patient care.
- Experience working with special populations such as children or individuals with developmental disabilities; experience in dementia or memory care is highly valued.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting with Hoyer lifts and assisting patients with mobility challenges.
- Strong communication skills coupled with a compassionate attitude towards patients of all ages and backgrounds.
